Nothing seemed to go right for EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) this year. He learned Nicole's (Arianne Zucker) baby was alive just before learning that he wasn't the baby's father. Then, he lost Nicole when he tried keeping the truth from her. He lost his job as district attorney only to win it back using nefarious methods. Then, he blew a simple case just because Belle Black (Martha Madison) stepped in.

After getting into it with Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) when he demanded she fire Belle from DiMera Enterprises, EJ is about to get either a welcome or unwelcome Christmas surprise. A familiar visitor arrives at the DiMera mansion and is ready to make themselves at home.

If this is a happy reunion, it could be EJ's beloved mother, Susan Banks (also Stacy Haiduk). EJ always has time and affection for his mom and cried real tears when he thought Ava (Tamara Braun) had killed her in 2022.

However, Sami (Alison Sweeney) would be another familiar face that EJ decidedly does not want to see. Things did not end well for them the last time she was in town, but that doesn't mean Sami won't be drawn to EJ the moment she steps foot back in Salem — something she is set to do very soon.

Kayla's motherly fears

While Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) enjoys some alone time with Steve (Stephen Nichols) before the holiday, she also has a long talk with Stephanie (Abigail Klein) as she catches up on her daughter's love life. Kayla learns just how complicated Stephanie's life really is.

When Kayla begins worrying for her daughter, does that mean Stephanie fills her in on everything? Let's see. Stephanie and Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) started sleeping together again, but thanks to a series of misunderstandings, they are not exactly together despite having strong feelings for one another.

However, Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier) is back in town and is in hot pursuit. He seems to want her back and Stephanie likes his attention, but Alex is still out there and insists he and Joy (AlexAnn Hopkins) are not in a real relationship.
