Things start heating up in Salem this month as new romances and old deceptions take hold. Expect to see Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) get a new lease on life when JJ Deveraux (Casey Moss) returns to Salem, and they resume their long-ago relationship.

Gabi's cousin Javi (Al Calderon) also finds romance with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), a man who's been looking for love in all the wrong places for far too long. Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Ava (Tamara Braun) have also established a new friendship, but they soon take things to the next level. What will that mean when Theresa returns?
You'll also see classic couples like Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) return as Jennifer lays into Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord), the woman who impersonated their daughter. Xander (Paul Telfer) and Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) find happiness again when Sarah regains the use of her legs. However, Marlena (Deidre Hall) doesn't have her man around and becomes alarmed when John (Drake Hogestyn) goes missing.
A sisterly triangle
Belle (Martha Madison) is back in town and picks things up with EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel), where they left off a few years back. She wants to try living life without Shawn (Brandon Beemer), but Sami (Alison Sweeney) also returns to Salem to reveal some truths about her ex.
Roman (Josh Taylor) drops a bomb on Johnny (Carson Boatman) when he lets it slip that he was conceived when EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) raped Sami. When EJ is found with a bullet wound to the chest, Rafe (Galen Gering) has a long list of suspects to question.
Losing Doug
Perhaps the saddest moments of the year come when Jack discovers that Doug (Bill Hayes) has passed away in his sleep. Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) is absolutely devastated to learn her beloved husband is gone, but at least she has her family around her.
Eli (Lamon Archey) and Lani (Sal Stowers) return to comfort Julie, while Hope (Kristian Alfonso) comes home to Salem to say goodbye to her father. Marie Horton (Maree Cheatham) is also back to be with her family during this sad and tragic time.
Ciara's (Victoria Konefal) return could also unravel a mystery as she is finally able to open the box that Julie had found in the attic all those months ago.
