At the police station, Belle thanked Shawn for testifying at a trial. She asked her ex if he still intended on going to Rafe and Jada’s wedding, but Shawn thought it would be too late. The talk turned to the parties the night before, and Shawn mentioned that Chanel had come on to him. Belle started to ask if Shawn and Chanel had spent the night together. Before Belle could finish the question, Shawn confirmed that Chanel and he did not sleep together.

“Unlike you and EJ,” Shawn added. Belle tried to explain to Shawn, but he cut her off and said it was none of his business. Belle challenged Shawn’s claim and stated that he seemed upset. Shawn admitted that the relationship between Belle and EJ did upset him because EJ was “scum” and Belle should have “better taste.” Belle got offended and swore that EJ and she were a “one-time thing.”

Belle told Shawn not to hold back, so he reminded Belle that, as an addict, he had become skilled at spotting lies. “I think you’re lying to yourself,” he said to her. After Belle left, Shawn sat down at his desk and spotted a folder. As he read the contents, his eyes widened. “What the heck is this?” he asked himself.

At the DiMera mansion, EJ sent something to Arnold over the phone and said aloud of the doppelganger: “Don’t screw this up.” Still musing to himself, he ordered Arnold to “drop the hammer on Jada Hunter.” In a follow-up text, EJ further instructed Arnold to play the part of the reluctant and hurt groom.

At Rafe and Jada’s wedding, Paulina began the ceremony, only to be interrupted when Leo rose and announced he had something to say. Paulina scolded him about his penchant for disrupting big events. Leo pressed forward until Javi also rose and told Leo that it was Javi’s secret to tell. Javi addressed the gathering, noting he had important information. “Rafe” told Javi whatever news he had could wait; “Rafe” suddenly received an alert and pulled his phone out.

As he read the message, “Rafe” feigned shock, turned to Jada, and declared that he couldn’t marry her. While the crowd reacted to the declaration, a stunned Jada pulled “Rafe” aside and demanded to know what he meant. “Rafe” said that he couldn’t marry Jada because she was not the woman he had believed her to be. As Paulina and the other guests gaped at Rafe’s words, he apologized and stated that he hadn’t wanted to “do this” at the wedding. Jada continued to express confusion and wanted clear answers from “Rafe.”

Addressing Jada, “Rafe” elaborated that it had all begun when EJ had hired him on a case. While parts of what “Rafe” had claimed about the case had been true, he had been lying about other key aspects. “Rafe” revealed that EJ had hired him to investigate someone other than Sloan. When Jada asked who the case had targeted, “Rafe” replied, “You.”

While the guests absorbed the latest claim, Gabi insisted her brother would never go behind Jada’s back. Javi and Leo shared a look, which prompted Gabi to ask what they knew. Both insisted that they knew nothing about what “Rafe” had revealed.

“Rafe” continued his explanation and claimed that EJ had hired him to dig up dirt on Jada so that EJ could get his job back. Jada understood why EJ would go after her. She couldn’t comprehend, however, why Rafe would help him. Following another glance at his phone, “Rafe” turned on the hurt act and explained that he had taken the case because he had believed he would find nothing on Jada. Then, he could take EJ’s money and leave EJ looking like a fool.

Jada wondered what the problem had been with that scenario. “Rafe” sorrowfully responded, “I found something.” Stephanie and Paulina rallied around Jada and defended her integrity. “Rafe” told them he understood because he had felt the same way. “But it’s all right here,” he added, indicating his phone. Jada again demanded to know what “Rafe” had supposedly found.

“Rafe” concocted a story in which he had asked an unidentified law enforcement friend to check over Jada’s records. While “Rafe” hadn’t expected to uncover anything, the text from the friend had revealed “disturbing discrepancies” and multiple instances where rules had been broken. Paulina asked for clarification, and Jada assured her that there was no truth to the allegations. “Rafe” retorted that the investigation had uncovered a “very disturbing trail of lies and corruption.”

Jada continued to balk at the allegations, but “Rafe” reiterated that he had the evidence. His friend had compiled a dossier detailing all of Jada’s misconduct. Jada demanded to see it. “I’ve got it right here,” an arriving Shawn announced as everyone turned to him. While the guests' attention was occupied, “Rafe” let loose a grin in the background.

With a folder in hand, Shawn explained that he’d found the document at his desk. “Rafe” said his friend must have left the file for Shawn. The dossier had disclosed several instances during Jada’s tenure as temporary commissioner in which Jada had appeared to have skirted the rules in order to ensure an arrest and conviction. Jada vehemently affirmed that she always followed the law, but “Rafe” reminded her of the pressure she had been under when he had been in a coma. Jada wanted to see the file for herself; Paulina stepped in and stated that she would be seizing the contents.

Jada implored Paulina and Shawn not to believe what they were being told. She turned to “Rafe” and asked why he was “doing this” to her. Pretending to tear up, “Rafe” said he had believed with all his heart that the investigation would lead nowhere. He couldn’t marry Jada while she was under “investigation.” Jada was incredulous that there would be an investigation and that Shawn couldn’t see through the “lies.”

Paulina tried to assure Jada that they needed to clear up the allegations in a transparent manner, even if it was a “misunderstanding.” She also said that she couldn’t marry Jada and Rafe. Paulina asked Shawn to take Jada to the station for questioning despite Stephanie and Steve’s protests. Jada complied, but not before shooting “Rafe” a glare of hurt and anger.

After most of the guests had dispersed, Gabi angrily confronted “Rafe” and asked him how he could have done that to Jada. “Rafe” defended himself as the wounded party and refused Gabi’s demand for them to go home so he could explain. He claimed he needed time to himself, so Gabi reluctantly left. She warned “Rafe” that they would discuss the events later. Once Gabi left, “Rafe” sidled over to Javi and Leo and lamented the bad day he’d had.

Neither Leo nor Javi was particularly sympathetic, and Javi harshly reminded “Rafe” that he had “no room to judge” Jada. “Rafe” acted confused by the comment until Javi clarified that “Rafe” had cheated on Jada the previous night. “Rafe” lashed out at both Javi and Leo for threatening to reveal his indiscretion during the wedding, but both remained unapologetic. “Rafe” eventually declared that since he’d lost his fiancée and his job, he needed to figure out the rest of his life. He walked off with a smirk on his face.

Javi debated with Leo whether he should tell Jada the truth. Leo reasoned that since Rafe and Jada would not be getting married anytime soon, it was a moot point. He also believed that Jada had “dodged a bullet,” considering Rafe had betrayed her twice in the span of a day. Javi decided that revealing Rafe’s infidelity would only add to Jada’s pain.

Back at the DiMera mansion, Belle stormed into the main room and launched into a rant about the lecture she had gotten from Shawn. EJ seemed amused and characterized their morning run-in with Shawn as “a tad awkward.” He wanted to know if Belle had come to unload on him…or to do something else. Belle insisted they needed to decide what to do about their relationship “going forward.” The duo bantered about Belle’s use of the word “relationship.”

Belle worried about how Shawn and her mother had reacted, and EJ reminded Belle that she was a grown woman and that her loved ones would just have to deal with it. Belle then focused on her worry that “Hurricane Sami” would soon “blow into town” if she found out. EJ acknowledged Sami’s penchant for chaos but insisted he was through living in fear of what his ex would do. He pondered if Belle had only come to “strategize” about Sami. “Or is there another reason?” he mused as he approached Belle with a grin.

Belle backed away from EJ’s approach, and she rambled about all the reasons why a dalliance with EJ couldn’t happen, including her status as the district attorney. EJ continued to move closer and amicably agreed with Belle’s defenses. She declared she was leaving, and a smiling EJ told her to go. The flirtation ended with a passionate kiss. Belle stopped it and breathlessly insisted they couldn’t. EJ again invited her to go but suggested that if she wanted to continue, they should take it upstairs.

“Let’s go before I change my mind,” Belle decided, pulling EJ toward the stairs. Once they made it to the bedroom, the clothes immediately came off, and they fell onto the bed, still locked in a kiss. Later, the panting duo agreed that they weren’t much in the mood to think about the mistake they had made. They leaned in for another kiss.

Meanwhile, Arnold returned to his room at the Salem Inn and sent a text to EJ: “It’s done. They took Jada to the PD.” A pleased EJ, still in bed with Belle, sent back: “Excellent. This is shaping up to be a great day.”

Over at the police station, Shawn – along with Paulina – walked Jada into the main office. Jada continued to proclaim her innocence and begged Paulina to believe her. “Is this what you think of me?” challenged Jada. Paulina assured Jada that she had confidence in and respect for her, which is why Paulina offered Jada the permanent position of commissioner. But Paulina did recall how much stress Rafe’s attack had placed on Jada, which might have compelled Jada to “cut corners.”

Jada stressed that she had only wanted to honor Rafe’s legacy by taking on the commissioner job. She would never dishonor him or compromise herself just to improve the department’s record. What really hurt Jada, though, was that Rafe had professed to love her in one breath while agreeing to dig up dirt on her with the next breath. She couldn’t grasp his motivations.

Paulina told Shawn to take Jada into the interrogation room for questioning. Shawn apologized to Jada and asked if she wanted to contact a lawyer. Jada wanted to get the questioning done because her day couldn’t get any worse. As Shawn led Jada into the room, Paulina looked remorseful and conflicted.

At the Brady Pub, Stephanie, Steve, and Kayla discussed the events at the wedding. Stephanie couldn’t believe that Rafe would humiliate Jada like that. Steve acknowledged Rafe had been making many questionable choices lately. All of them agreed that Jada was not guilty of the charges against her. They would find out the truth, Steve vowed. Stephanie blasted Rafe again, asking, “What’s wrong with him?”

Stephanie called Rafe’s entire accusation “insane” and identified Jada as one of the most “moral, ethical” people that she knew. Steve said they should “consider the source” of the information. Stephanie thought he meant Rafe. Steve corrected, “This has EJ DiMera’s filthy fingerprints all over it.”
