Days of our Lives comings and goings: Surprising recasts, plus old and new faces in 2025

Days of our Lives comes chock full of changes for 2025, and that includes cast changes that are both welcoming and surprising.

A new Sophia and a new Rachel on the horizon

Just as Sophia Choi's story heats up with her mother insisting that Sophia marry her baby daddy, Tate (Leo Howard), Sophia is about to get a brand-new face, according to TV Insider.

Madelyn Kientz has been playing Sophia since last spring, but Rachel Boyd will take over next month. Kientz's last airdate is January 27, and Boyd will make her debut on February 12. Boyd has appeared in several movies and TV series, including Shazam and Boot Camp.

Finley Rose Slater, who has been bringing Rachel Black to life since 2021, will be replaced by Alice Halsey this spring. The young actress has been seen on the Night Court reboot, as well as in the TV miniseries Lessons in Chemistry. Her first airdate is April 24, which is also when the writing from Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford will debut.

Not only will these two younger characters get new faces, but you will also see some familiar mugs as the year progresses. Emily O'Brien is back as Gwen Rizcech, Jack's (Matthew Ashford) wayward, long-lost daughter who left Salem toward the end of 2023 to enjoy her newfound riches after a disastrous marriage to Dimitri von Leuchner (Peter Porte).

There's no word on whether O'Brien will also reprise Theresa Donovan. The actress took over the role of Tate's mom the very same day Gwen left town. Gwen got on a plane and Theresa got off a plane, with O'Brien in a long, blonde wig.

Kim Coles, who played crazy Nurse Whitley in 2023, will make a one-day return on February 5. Whitley introduced Abe (James Reynolds) to Body and Soul. Is it possible we will learn the whole recently decidedly unpopular soap-within-a-soap storyline has been in her head? You'll also see soap vet Michael Dietz make his Salem debut on April 30. Dietz previously played Joe Scanlon on Port Charles and Alan-Michael Spaulding on Guiding Light.
