Cherie Jimenez has made quite a splash on Days of our Lives since taking over the role of Gabi Hernandez from Camila Banus last June. The character had been in jail for a crime she didn't commit but couldn't wait to get back to her husband Stefan. After a tumultuous nine months in which Gabi has ended up divorced, rumors have begun swirling that Jimenez is leaving the Peacock soap.
No more Days of our Lives?
When Jimenez got wind of these fan rumors, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to put a quick kibosh on them.
"I guess there’s a rumor going around that I’m leaving Dool & so I just wanted to squash that right now by letting y’all know I’m not going anywhere. I love playing Gabi & everyone at #Days," Jimenez tweeted, much to the relief of a legion of fans.
While fans are loving Jimenez now and are grateful she is sticking around for the long haul, the actress admitted there was some fan backlash when she first began.
"I’m not going to sugarcoat it," Jimenez told Women's World last October. "I cried a bunch in the beginning. The fanbase was basically bullying me. People miss Camila and even though I tried to bring elements of her to the role, I’m not Camila. I was getting ripped apart in so many different ways—and people were reaching out to do it. It really hurt."
However, she dusted herself off and continued to do an incredible job as the new Gabi. "I’m also proud of my work," she said. "My producers and bosses let me know that I have exceeded their expectations, and now, I have some fans. I’d say it’s 50/50, so I’m focusing on the viewers that are giving me a chance and showing me love."
A new Gabi ahead
Today, Gabi is also doing better than ever. She has no idea that Stefan was kidnapped by his crazy mother Vivian, but she also has a new-old man in her life. Gabi has rekindled her flame with ex-boyfriend JJ and is enjoying their brand-new romance.
That doesn't mean Gabi isn't the same spitfire she has always been, one who will take the law into her own hands if necessary as evidenced by her bursting into the DiMera mansion with a gun recently.
