DAYS Two Scoops: Bats in the belfry

There’s something spectacularly crazy in Salem these days, and it’s only ramping up to be even crazier and more spectacular. Let’s celebrate! So, grab a big ol' Salem slice of cake and let’s get a little batty in this week’s DAYS Two Scoops!

I’m totally batty for this time of year! DAYS is always its best going into its anniversary, “Day of DAYS,” November Sweeps, and the fun Halloween Spooktacular episode. It’s also not far from the holidays and the end of the year awards. September also marks a certain set of Two Scoopers' anniversaries with Soap Central. I guess in 2024, it’s Soap-ish Central. The site now embarrassingly writes articles about travel mugs, and something called “Squishmallows,” but I digress. Yay! There’s a lot to celebrate, so let’s grab some big ol' Salem slices of cake and dig into the drama!

I have way too many questions after watching DAYS last week. The most important, do one-year-olds have piñatas at their birthday parties!? I thought they would lack a certain amount of hand-eye coordination, or at least on par with Fiona and Brady after a few bottles, but, again, I digress. I’m pretty sure that was just an easy excuse to give Xander access to a sports ball bat. I could be wrong. Maybe Baby Vic is a flat-out slugger.

All the actors in this storyline are absolutely hitting it out of the park, as it were! Eric Martsolf is selling Brady’s pain like a champ, and I have a visceral reaction to Paul Telfer’s snarls of contempt. I never want to meet this man in a bad mood. Linsey Godfrey has been compelling to watch. I can only bow down to the epic-ness that is Suzanne Rogers. And Wally Kurth is the chef’s kiss. That Maggie and Justin scene was brilliant!

In fact, Linsey has been playing it so impressively (and close to the vest) that it led to another question. Did Sarah remember that it was Fiona, not Brady, that hit her!? Linsey cast a haunting yet cryptic portrayal once Sarah left Doc’s office. Marlena noted that she didn’t recall, but something about Sarah’s reactions made me believe that she likely did. Hmm!

I could see why Sarah would keep this bombshell to herself temporarily to process the ramifications. This isn’t a, “Oh, honey, by the way, remember when you thought it was Brady who ran me down? Funny story. It was your mom!” type situation. Though I did think we were getting a Sarah and Fiona confrontation scene straight away. I guess there’s a pin in that for now, but I can’t wait to see this eventual throwdown.

For now, it might be Fiona throwing down a bombshell to stop Xander from beating Brady batty with a bat. She was JUST about to make a confession to her son and then the dreaded Friday cliffhanger! Drats.

Still, I highly suspect Fiona’s confession will be more of the “I’ve been bedding Brady” variety versus the “Guess who has two thumbs and ran over your wife? This girl!” type. That big of a biggie seems more like a Sweeps-like surprise. And November is right around the corner.

With Fiona confessing a fling with Brady that also aligns with a certain other Salemite who might have feelings for Monsieur Noir. You know, might. I kid. I kid. Last week acted like we’ve never met Special K before. Water's wet. Kristen’s batty over Brady. Some things are just things. Why was this built up so much? Well…

I suspect that Kristen “He And I Are Meant To Be” DiMera will feel very “Kristen” learning Brady was with Fiona just as she thought they'd made strides. This will likely undo any goodwill she recently displayed to him or the family. Sorry, “Jarlena.” That Grandparents' Day invite might go, as NSYNC sings, “Bye, bye, bye.”

Meanwhile, while Victoria and all her cuteness were hogging the celebratory spotlight and cake, there’s something else to party on about. That is — SPOILERS AHEAD! — Bo and Hope are returning in 2025! Maybe this time instead of Shawn shooting his dad, Ciara will shoot them both, and they’ll end up in a couple’s coma. That’s a thing, right? “Couple’s coma.” Ugh. Let’s, well, hope this time around, DAYS treats “Bope” better. Much better.

LOOSE ENDS:

I love everything about Steve being involved with Faux-Abby! Yes, and please. From him recanting his “Stevano” saga to his suspicions, you go, Patch Man. You. Go!

Also, “You go!” Paulina. I loved her “Bee in your bonnet” comeback when Gabi was all sassy and stupid. Auntie P shut her down with compassion and match-sassiness. It was a splendid little scene.

Color me shocked, but I was absurdly excited that Rafe woke up. Rafe and all his Rafeness are so deeply woven into the fabric of Salem after all this time. It was nice to see Jada and Gabi’s happiness. Kayla and Paulina’s, too. Three cheers for Rafe-A-Roni!

And let’s celebrate Jada, too! In her limited spare time, she learned to make his favorite meals. That was so kind of her. This couple is easily becoming goals.

Oh, Rafe. You will never get that voice out of your head. Ever. This will certainly be Connie’s downfall, though. There’s that.

Yes, Johnny, yes! I adored every tough love second he scolded his father with. E.J. needed to hear that. Ro-Jo was right about everything. E.J.’s faults are E.J.’s faults and nobody else’s. I can see why Johnny’s so close to Susan, as she’s one of the only other Salemites who can shoot him down like that. Someone get Johnny one of those big ol' Salem slices of cake, please. He deserves it.

E.J. and Nicole are officially divorced. For a lawyer, he seemed rather shocked she got the job done so easily, despite his best efforts.

I believe E.J. loves Holly. I also believe E.J. will use Holly’s anger to his advantage. This will not end well but will also ring hollow without Nicole around to strike back at Eej. Boo.

I enjoyed Eric and Sarah’s chat. Sometimes I forget the rich, shared history they have. I was a smidge disappointed they didn’t have a conversation about how she forgave him regarding Dr. Bro’s death, though.

I’m under no illusions I’m not going to hell for writing the following, but I kind of want to tell Holly she didn’t miss much regarding Dr. Dad. A puka shell necklace. Some mouth breathing. Scolding Nicole to change or else she’s not worthy of him. And, uh, I think that’s about it.

I dunno. The drama's all right there regarding Holly finding out about Eric, but I’m very indifferent to it. That’s not to say that Greg Vaughan, Ashley Puzemis, and the lot aren’t doing an amazing job. They are. It’s just the timing and the very large, immensely huge Ari Zucker-sized hole in it. Without Nicole, it’s just not as strong as it should be.

Also, I’m still not over the fact that Holly didn’t know the truth before this. Marlena might have the right idea of “right time, love, and compassion,” but I think “right time” flew the coop years ago. Like Laurisa stated last week, I can’t believe Holly didn’t investigate this before. Still, Greg and Ashley were amazing!

Holy Talking Aloud, Batman. It’s like Fiona and “Fabby” just want to be caught. Use your inside voices, ladies. By “inside,” I mean inside your brains.

Then again, that should apply to Brady, too. Why did he go and divulge the extra info to Ava!? He could have stopped but he kept blabbing, and now she has a secret on him. Granted, I like their budding friendship, but don’t give Ava a bat and expect her not to swing it if she needs to.

I really enjoy the friendship between Chad and Stephanie, as well as Stephanie’s with Jada. Conversely, Stephanie isn’t dating anyone right now. I’m beginning to think her best match is with herself in professional and friend modes. Her best looks. Let’s dance that one out in your fab new apartment, StephaPal!

EXTRA SCOOPS

HOT

Bo and Hope!? Yes. Please.

NOT

I feel Melinda’s pain. We can hit fast-forward on Connie. She cannot. I’m sorry, Mel. Drinks at Little Bar when you’re finally not so, uh, tied up.

LINE(S) OF THE WEEK

“Well. Thank you for all that.” Marlena to Kristen

RANDOM THOUGHTS

When Doc told Eric that, “You have such a way,” I was just like, “Oh, Mar.”

Fashion was on fire last week! I loved Maggie’s Saturday Night Fever homage, and Fiona’s outfit was show-stealing. Little Cake Face will have fierce photos to look back on.

I want a latte from Sweet Bits, too.

My mom always uses, “You can only be as happy as your least happy child.”

Their first day of school is pretty late in the year, no? First, piñatas at a one-year-old's party, and now this? Salem, you are strange.

I don’t know why it made me laugh when Tate asked Eric, “Are you here to give me a ride home?” but it did.

John and Tate’s talk was sweet! I love how hard John loves.

Sarah doesn’t strike me as “The staff will clean up” type, but I guess when in Rome, err, Athens.

PARTING THOUGHTS

So, friends and fellow fans, that’s it for September 16. Laurisa will be back next week! As always, thank you for reading, and “That’s a fact.”
