At the police station, Brady prepared to leave, but Sarah stopped him. She admitted that she had been waiting for him because there was something she needed to say. Their conversation was temporarily interrupted when Kristen called Brady to congratulate him on his release and to see if he wanted to visit with Rachel. Brady gladly accepted the invitation, ended the call, and sat down with Sarah.

Sarah apologized for everything that had happened with Fiona and with Brady's arrest. Brady felt grateful that he had not caused the accident, but he believed that under different circumstances, it could have been him. He still felt guilty about drinking and vowed that the past few weeks had been a wake-up call for him. While Brady held no ill will toward Sarah or Xander, he expressed confusion as to why Sarah had identified him as the hit-and-run driver. Brady asked Sarah if she had made a mistake, but she confessed that she had lied.

Before Sarah could provide the full details, Brady correctly guessed that Sarah had been protecting Xander. He recalled the incident where he had encountered a man who had claimed to be from rehab, and Brady surmised that the man had drugged him. Brady also remembered Xander having visited his room. Brady believed that Xander had had murder on his mind that night and that Sarah had placed a call to the police in order to save both Brady and Xander. Sarah expressed remorse, but Brady said he understood and forgave her.

Sarah thanked him and later hinted that someone had offered her a cure for her paralysis in exchange for Brady’s freedom. Brady did not need two guesses to identify Kristen as the source of the offer.

At the DiMera mansion, Kristen buttered up Mr. Shin on the phone and then snarked about him after she ended her business call. Xander strode through the door, and Kristen cautioned him not to beg for the serum again without having delivered results. Kristen was skeptical when Xander claimed that Brady had been freed, so she called Brady to confirm. After Kristen talked with Brady, Xander assumed she would give him the serum, but Kristen demurred. She knew that Eric, not Xander, had been the reason for Brady’s exoneration.

Xander grew angry at Kristen’s continued hedging, so Kristen informed him that he could have the serum…if he gave her something in return. When Xander pressed Kristen on what she could possibly want from him, she stunned him by declaring that she wanted Titan. An incredulous Xander refused to hand over his father’s empire to a sworn enemy, and Kristen reminded him that it was a “small price” for Sarah to walk again. Xander tried to reason that Kristen already had her family company, but Kristen feared that the board could turn on her if she did not deliver a big win for the company.

Kristen explained that Rolf’s serum would not do DiMera Enterprises any good in the short-term because of the clinical trial process, which could take years. She insisted that seizing control of Titan would secure her place as CEO. Kristen also snarked at Xander's desperate suggestion that he buy her a "replacement" car to give to Brady instead.

After Kristen sent Xander on his way with a serious decision to make, Kristen received a visit from Brady. He wanted to know if Kristen still intended to give Sarah the serum. Kristen smiled and affirmed that she and Xander had already been making plans.

Later, Xander arrived home at the Kiriakis mansion. His mood lifted temporarily when he saw Sarah, and the couple embraced. Sarah updated Xander on her visit with Brady, and she assured him that the exchange had gone well. Xander wished he'd had better luck during his visit to Kristen. Sarah was puzzled after Xander reluctantly admitted that Kristen’s terms had changed. When Sarah prodded Xander on what Kristen had wanted, Xander sighed and looked up at Victor’s portrait. “Only my family legacy,” he dejectedly stated.

At the hospital, Marlena greeted Kayla with the good news of Brady’s release. Marlena noticed that Kayla seemed distracted with her phone, so Kayla explained that Steve had gone to Paris to stop Chad from marrying Abigail. Kayla then shocked Marlena by revealing that the woman they had believed to be Abigail was an imposter. Marlena offered a sympathetic ear as Kayla recounted the story behind Steve’s discovery.

Kayla also apologized for overtaking the conversation, and she asked Marlena about Brady. Marlena expressed that Brady’s entire family was happy, including John, who had gone out of town on a trip with his father. Marlena’s only worry was Kristen, and she relayed her concerns about Kristen’s attempts to get back into Brady’s good graces. Marlena turned the conversation back to the Abigail situation, as both Marlena and Kayla fretted about the revelation’s impact on Abigail’s family.

Marlena brought up how John had been found tied up at Abigail’s apartment. She still found the circumstances of John’s abduction following his visit to Catharina's grave puzzling and hoped for answers.

In Paris, Steve clocked Mark on the head, and Mark crumpled to the floor. A shocked Chad demanded answers. Steve said he was sorry, but the woman Chad had just married was not Abigail. As “Abigail” tried to rouse Mark, Steve explained to Chad that Mark had tampered with the DNA test. Chad asked “Abigail” if the accusation was true. She turned to him and, with tears in her eyes, confirmed that she was not Abigail.

Chad grew emotional as he realized that Abigail was really dead, and Steve tried to comfort him. He lashed out at the imposter Abigail and called what she had done “a sick game.” He asked if Mark was her boyfriend, and she clarified that Mark was her brother. An angry Chad grabbed the imposter and took her into the bedroom so they could talk in private.

Steve tied up a still-unconscious Mark as J.J. entered. J.J. was startled by the sight and recognized Mark as the man who had been talking with Holly. Steve informed J.J. that the doctor had been “moonlighting as Chad’s would-be assassin.” The news stunned J.J., and when he asked about the whereabouts of his sister, Steve had to break the news that the woman in the other room was not J.J.’s sister.

J.J. teared up as he absorbed the news, and he dreaded having to tell his dad. Both J.J. and Steve realized that Jennifer had been correct in her “mother’s intuition” about Abigail. J.J. couldn’t understand why the imposter or Mark would have concocted the plan, and Steve mused that all roads led back to Clyde.

Mark regained consciousness and struggled against his restraints. He saw Steve and J.J. and asked how Steve had gotten there. J.J. informed Mark that Steve had stopped Mark’s “assassination attempt.” Steve filled Mark in on the DNA test that had alerted Steve to the truth. Mark looked around for his sister, so Steve told him that Chad had taken her into the other room. “Something tells me the marriage is doomed,” Steve cracked.

Once they were alone in the bedroom, the imposter Abigail insisted to Chad that neither she nor Mark had wanted to take part in the plan. She blamed their actions on Clyde, and Chad asked if Clyde had paid her to lie. The imposter firmly stated that money had not been her motivation, but it had been Clyde’s. Chad blasted her for deceiving him and for playing with his emotions, but the imposter responded that her feelings had been the only real part of the plan. While she didn’t expect Chad to believe it, she insisted that she had genuine feelings for him.

Chad scoffed at the imposter's proclamation, but she reiterated that the more she had gotten to know Chad, the more she had fallen in love with him. When she brought up the wedding vows they had previously recited to each other, Chad challenged her on how she had known them. The imposter confessed that she had retrieved the vows from the Horton attic, and the confession further enraged Chad. After the imposter defended that her actions had never been “malicious,” Chad furiously countered that giving him hope that he’d gotten the love of his life back and then making him relive the pain of her loss all over again had been the epitome of “malicious.” The imposter sobbed in remorse.

Chad wondered why Mark had attempted to kill him if the imposter’s claims about her feelings had been true. She protested that she’d had no idea about Mark’s arrival with the gun. Chad balked, but she reminded him that she’d stepped in front of him to stop her brother. Chad believed it could have been part of her ploy, and he blamed himself for having fallen for her lies. He had been so desperate to ease his pain and to get the love of his life was back that he’d been easily deceived.

Chad also raged about the agony awaiting Abigail’s parents, and he realized with horror that he’d nearly subjected his kids to the same despair. The imposter insisted that she hadn’t wanted to tell the children because she had wanted to spare them that pain, and Chad sarcastically called her a “saint.” The imposter pleaded with him to believe that she had never wanted to go through with the plan. She finally admitted that Clyde had threatened her mother’s life if she did not do his bidding.

The imposter sat on the bed and opened up about her mother’s captivity and Clyde’s involvement. Chad asked why he should believe her, since he didn’t even know her real name. The imposter replied that her name was Cat, which was short for Catharina: her mother.

Chad vowed that whatever the imposter’s identity, she would pay for what she had done to him.
