Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso) is one of the most popular characters in Days of our Lives history. Her sweet and tender relationship with her father, Doug (Bill Hayes), was legendary. Hope grew up with Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) as her mother figure, but some newer fans might wonder who Hope's biological mother was. The answer is simple but it also sometimes made her relationship with Julie more complicated.
Mother and daughter share a lover
It's not unusual for soap mothers and daughters to fall for the same man, and that's exactly what happened between Julie and her own mother. Julie and Doug were in love and planned to marry. One night, they argue over Julie's desire to fight for full custody of her son David.

With Doug angry at Julie and her mother, Addie (Patricia Barry), having feelings for her daughter's fiance, Addie was more than happy to step in and comfort Doug. One thing led to another, as it often does on soaps, and before Julie knew it, Doug and Addie were married.
Julie still thought she could win Doug back but when Addie became pregnant, Julie knew it was over, and resigned herself to a life without Doug.
Baby Hope is born
Addie's pregnancy was not without complications. She was diagnosed with leukemia while pregnant but went into remission. Addie believed she and Doug would lead a wonderful life together raising the baby girl they named Hope, but tragedy struck. While Addie was walking baby Hope in her stroller, she saw an oncoming car and pushed Hope out of the way. Sadly, Addie was struck instead and died.
Julie was there to comfort Doug through his grief, and they eventually married, making Julie both Hope's stepmother and her half-sister. That definitely caused some problems through the years.
Teenage trouble to adult love on Days of our Lives
When Hope was a teenager, she resented Julie and didn't want her as a parent. Instead, she insisted that Julie was just her sister and that she didn't want her to interfere with her romance with Bo (Peter Reckell). However, time and maturity changed all that.
Hope's children, Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal), came to know Julie as their grandmother and have never thought of her as an aunt. Hope and Julie also grew close over the years, and Hope was the one person Julie wanted to see the most after she lost her precious Doug at Thanksgiving.
