Alex confronted Johnny about Joy’s decision to accept EJ’s bribe. When Chanel caught Johnny and Alex fighting, Johnny told Chanel that Alex had slept with Joy. Alex reluctantly allowed Chanel to believe Johnny’s lie. Joy changed her mind about leaving town after Kate talked her out of it. EJ was furious, and Johnny was terrified that his guilt would break him.
Leo was crushed to learn that Javi was dating Leo’s groupie, Kerry. Kerry mocked Leo’s writing. Leo talked to Marlena about his heartbreak, but there was nothing Leo could do but watch Javi move on with his new man.
In Canada, Clyde instructed Chad to deliver Cat to him at a strip club called the Pink Kitten Club. Steve sent Chad an address that the ISA believed was Clyde’s apartment. While Chad and Cat went to the club, JJ and Gabi went to the apartment to track down Cat’s mom or evidence of Abigail’s remains.
At the club, Chad and Cat were surprised by Cat’s mom. Catharina believed that Clyde was her friend and that she needed to murder Cat and Chad to protect herself. Chad overpowered Catharina and tied her up. At the apartment, Clyde confronted JJ and Gabi with a gun. Clyde took Gabi hostage, and JJ secretly texted Chad for backup. Chad left Cat to watch Catharina while he rushed to help JJ. Cat thought she got through to her mom, but her mom stole her gun and ran out.

At the apartment, Chad knocked out Clyde before he could shoot JJ. When Clyde woke up, Chad questioned him about Abigail’s remains. As Clyde started to tell Chad what he wanted to know, Catharina shot Clyde. Desperate for information, Chad called an ambulance. Clyde was rushed into surgery, but he fell into a coma. The police arrested Catharina.
A suspicious Hope reached out to Charles to confirm that he had a son named Doug Williams. Though Charles confirmed that Doug was Hope’s nephew, she remained suspicious. Roman promised Hope that he would watch both Julie and Doug in Hope’s absence. Before Hope left town, she warned Doug not to hurt Julie.
Julie wanted to show Alice’s necklace to Doug, but she was confused when she could not find it in the time capsule. Jennifer told Julie that she, Lucas, and Ciara believed that Steven had stolen the necklace. Julie refused to believe her brother had stolen the necklace, even though he had had the opportunity. No one knew that Doug had overheard the family’s conversation about the necklace from the garden and that he had stolen the necklace when everyone had been at the funeral.
For the holidays, Steve and Kayla decorated for Christmas and spent some time alone together.
Tate and Holly helped Aaron pick presents for Felicity while Aaron anxiously waited for news about his mom. Cat told Aaron that their mother was alive but in jail. A newly sober Shawn made amends with Jada, and she offered him a job at the Salem PD. In an effort to move on with his life, Shawn accepted the job and signed his divorce papers.
A guilty Philip almost confessed to Stephanie that his letter from Victor was a forgery, but he stopped himself. Xander convinced Philip’s lawyer to quit the case the night before trial. In a bind, Philip asked Belle to take on the case for him. Stephanie decided to track down the new Lady Whistleblower and convince them to stop printing spoilers for the soap and instead print gossip about Xander.

Ava told Kristen that she was going to the ballet with Brady because of Kristen's actions. A jealous Kristen slapped Ava. When Ava slapped Kristen back, Kristen reminded Ava of what she had done to Sarah. While Ava was unfazed, Kristen went home and plotted her revenge. Ava met up with Brady to tell him about Kristen’s threats against her.
