In the town square, Jack asked Jennifer why she had stayed up late the night before. “I just had some long talks with Hope,” Jennifer said. Jennifer admitted that she had been unable to sleep anyway because she was worried about Chad and JJ. “They’re both smart, capable young men. And JJ has training from the police,” Jack said. Jennifer said she knew that, but she was anxious to hear from them.
Jack assured Jennifer that JJ would be fine. “Remember, he needs to do this for his sister. And Chad needs to do this for his wife. And you and I, we need to believe that they will succeed in their mission. For our daughter. For Abigail,” Jack said.
At the Brady Pub, Kayla, Steve, and Roman lamented that Julie would have to endure Christmas without her husband. “The hanging of the Horton ornaments will definitely be bittersweet this year,” Roman said. “Julie is going to need her family and friends around now more than ever,” Steve agreed. “She’s not the only one!” Hope said as she walked into the pub. Kayla and Roman hugged Hope.
“How are you holding up?” Steve asked. “You know, It’s Julie that I worry about,” Hope said. Steve’s phone alarm beeped, and he offered to delay his meeting with Jack. “No. I understand. I know what’s going on,” Hope said. Steve asked how long Hope would stay in town, and she noted that she needed to return to Bo. Hope insisted that Steve meet up with Jack, and Steve reluctantly agreed.

“Please know that we are always thinking of you and Bo,” Steve said. We heard that he squeezed your hand the other day,” Kayla added. Hope admitted that the hand squeeze had been a false alarm. Steve stressed that Bo would wake up and urged Hope to keep the faith. “Always,” Hope said. Steve hugged Hope goodbye and left.
As Hope noted, she was thankful that Julie had so much support, so she sighed. “Have either one of you met my father’s long-lost grandson?” Hope asked. Roman, Kayla, and Hope talked about the new Doug, and Hope admitted she was concerned.
“Do you think this guy is not who he says he is?” Roman asked. Hope laid out her suspicions to Kayla and Roman. “At the very least, I’m going to verify Doug’s story before I go,” Hope said. Hope called Harris for help finding Charles. Kayla was surprised that Hope was still in touch with Harris, but Hope said that Harris kept her updated on the search for Megan.
“Any news on that front?” Roman asked. “No, nothing, unfortunately,” Hope admitted. As Hope talked about how she hoped Harris’ contacts could help, her phone beeped with the information for Charles. Hope stepped aside and called Charles LeClair. After a brief chat, Hope told Kayla and Roman that Charles had confirmed that he had a son named Doug.
“Charles recently told him all about his past and his connection to our family. He said Doug seemed very interested. He was surprised that he was here in Salem, then said it makes sense,” Hope said. “So Doug is not an imposter,” Kayla said. Roman asked Hope about her reservations. “I still wonder what is his agenda? The timing. All of it,” Hope said. Roman promised to look after Julie for Hope. Hope glanced at her watch, and she announced that she had to leave for the airport.
“When you get back to Bo, you tell my little brother that his big brother said ‘wake the hell up’ and that I love him,” Roman said. Hope smiled. “I tell him that every day,” Hope said. Hope hugged Roman and Kayla goodbye, and she left.
Steve met up with Jack at the cafe in the square. “I’m worried about JJ and Chad. They’re going into this whole Clyde situation totally blind,” Jack said. “Maybe not totally,” Steve said. Steve informed Jack that he had talked to his contacts at the ISA, and he had intel.
In the Horton living room, the young man who called himself Doug Williams stared at the photo of the Horton clan on the mantle. Doug looked in his hand at Alice’s diamond necklace, which he had stolen. Doug thought about it when he watched through the Horton living room window, and Julie talked about the diamond necklace when the family looked at the time capsule.
“Hey, Doug!” Julie said. Doug snapped out of his memory, and he shoved the necklace in his pocket. “Just looking at all the family photos,” Doug said. Julie encouraged Doug to ask her any questions. “Most of those are my relatives. Your grandfather didn’t have a lot of blood relatives, just your father and Hope, of course,” Julie said. Doug mentioned Hope’s kids, and Julie confirmed that Shawn had been a police officer.
“Just like his mother,” Julie said. Julie told Doug that she was sorry that Shawn and Ciara had been unable to stay and get to know him. “You know, [Ciara] was the only one in the family that was able to open this time capsule,” Julie said. Julie pointed at the box on the table, and she noted that she had found where Jennifer had hidden the box. Julie told Doug that she was anxious to show him the contents of the box, including her grandmother’s necklace.
“That’s strange. It isn’t here,” Julie said as she rooted through the box. Jennifer returned home, and Julie asked about the necklace. “I am so sorry,” Jennifer said. Jennifer explained that they believed the necklace had been stolen while the family was at the funeral.
“You knew about it and didn’t tell me?” Julie said. “You were dealing with so much, and we just didn’t want to upset you,” Jennifer said. Julie asked Jennifer why she had not called the police, and Jennifer admitted that they believed the necklace had been stolen by Steven. “My brother? No, why do you accuse him? What proof do you have?” Julie asked. Jennifer argued that Steven had a history of stolen jewels.
“History is not proof! He’s changed!” Julie countered. Julie told Jennifer that Steven had had an experience in a monastery. “He had an epiphany. You may not believe it, but I believe it,” Julie said. Julie argued that her brother had a good heart. “He had the opportunity. Do you remember when we were leaving for the funeral?” Jennifer asked. Julie remembered she had returned to the house when Steven had gone inside to get his phone.
“That does not mean that he stole the necklace,” Julie said. “Who else could it have been?” Jennifer asked. Julie told Jennifer that she was jumping to conclusions. “Nobody who knows us could have done this to us. No, darling, it had to be a stranger,” Julie said. Doug thought about how he had crept into the living room after Julie left for the funeral. Doug shook off the memory of his thievery.
“We wondered if it could have been a random stranger. But then, why would they just take the necklace? Nothing else was missing. And if it was a random stranger, how would they even know there was a necklace in here to steal?” Jennifer asked. Julie shook her head no, and she said she was sure that her brother had not taken it. Jennifer told Julie that Ciara and Lucas had confronted Steven. Jennifer noted that Steven had denied that he had taken the necklace.
“I know it’s not my place, but didn’t you say that your brother left town in a hurry? And that his preferred way of getting in and out of the house was through a window?” Doug asked. Julie said yes. Jack texted Jennifer, and she promised to talk to Julie when she returned.
As Julie breathed deeply, Doug asked if she was okay. “No. Definitely not. It meant so much to me that my brother came to the memorial service. I hadn’t seen him in so long, and he was a lifeline. He was a blessing,” Julie said. Julie choked back her tears, and she lamented that Steven had been accused by his own family. “It can’t be. It would break my heart,” Julie said. “Julie, I think there’s something that you should know,” Doug said. Julie looked expectantly at Doug.
“What you should know is that even if your brother let you down, I’m always here for you, no matter what,” Doug said. Julie smiled, and she hugged Doug. Hope walked in and cleared her throat. “It’s time to say goodbye,” Hope said. “Oh no! Not so soon,” Julie said. Hope apologized, and she said she needed to get back to Bo. “Of course you do. You belong to him,” Julie said. Hope hugged Julie goodbye.
“My dad, he loved you. He loved you so, so much. But you knew that,” Hope said. Julie nodded yes. “I feel his love. I feel it all around me. I hope you feel it, too. Because your father adored you,” Julie said. Hope admitted that she felt her father’s love every day. “I always have, I always will,” Hope said. Hope asked Julie if she would be okay. Julie nodded yes, and she said she was more concerned about Hope. Hope promised to call, and they hugged goodbye.
Julie insisted Hope take doughnuts with her on the trip, and she rushed to the kitchen to pack some. “It was nice to meet you, Aunt Hope,” Doug said. “It was nice to meet you too, Doug. I hope you’ll take good care of Julie while I’m gone,” Hope said. Doug agreed. “Good. Because you should know that I am very protective of Julie. And if you should hurt her in any way, I’ll be back, but not so friendly next time,” Hope said.
In Vancouver, JJ woke up with Gabi’s arm lying across his chest. JJ smiled, and he gently moved Gabi’s arms. Gabi stirred awake. “I didn’t mean to wake you, but you kind of had me trapped,” JJ said. Gabi apologized. With a chuckle, JJ noted that Gabi had always liked to cuddle. “It’s okay. You can admit you missed me,” JJ said. Gabi playfully shoved JJ and called him a brat.
Gabi admitted she had cuddled up to JJ because she had been dreaming about Stefan. JJ said he did not understand why Gabi had fallen in love with someone who had treated her so badly. “You’re lucky to be rid of him,” JJ said. “Not feeling so lucky,” Gabi confessed. Gabi muttered that Stefan had cared so little for her that he had left town. JJ argued that Stefan’s actions proved his point. “I’m sorry. I get it. You loved him. So, for what it’s worth, I’m sorry things ended the way they did,” JJ said. Gabi thanked JJ.
Across the street, Cat thrashed and cried out in her sleep. A towel-clad Chad ran out of the hotel bathroom and woke Cat. “It was Clyde. He went through with his threat. He killed my mother!” Cat said breathlessly. Chad assured Cat that it was a dream.
“What if she’s already dead? What if the dream was real and everything that I’ve done, everything that I did to get my mom back, everything that I did to you? What if it was all for nothing?” Cat said. As Cat broke down in tears, Chad put his arms around her. When Cat calmed down, she apologized. Chad argued that it was horrible to lose your mother in real life or a dream. With a sigh, Cat talked about how her mother used to help her with her nightmares.
“I lost her once before; I thought I lost her, and I just, I can’t go through that again,” Cat said. “Yeah, I know what that’s like,” Chad said. Cat gasped as she realized what Chad meant. Cat started apologizing again, but Chad warned her to stay focused on the task. “Bring Clyde to justice,” Chad said. “And get Abigail’s remains,” Cat whispered. Chad noted that they would wait for Clyde’s instructions.
After JJ and Gabi dressed, someone slipped an envelope under the door to the room. Inside was a note that instructed Chad to deliver Cat to a place called the Pink Kitten Club. In Chad’s room, he stared out the window impatiently as he bellowed for Cat to hurry up. “I can’t afford to mess this up,” Chad said. Cat told Chad that although he may not believe it, she did want to help him locate his wife’s remains.
“I hate what I did. I hate that I put you through hell after all you’ve already been through after you lost your wife in that horrible way. So I really, genuinely want to do anything I can to help lessen the pain that you feel now,” Cat said. When Cat muttered to herself, Chad asked what else she wanted to see. Cat admitted that she still cared for Chad.
“You sure have a strange way of showing someone you care about them. All you’ve ever done is lie to me. That’s kind of the opposite of what you do when you care about someone,” Chad said. “It’s not like I was trying to make a profit or something like that. I was trying to save my mother,” Cat argued. Chad yelled at Cat to be quiet. “What you did was cruel, so if you’re expecting forgiveness,” Chad said with a shrug. Cat yelled that she did not expect forgiveness.
Cat understood that Chad would hate her forever, but she could not help how she felt about him. Before Cat could say more, JJ and Gabi knocked on the door. JJ handed the note to Chad, who pointed out that the meeting was at a strip club.
“It’s closed during the day, so it will be deserted,” JJ said. “Which is exactly how he would want it if he was setting up a trap,” Chad said. Chad and JJ agreed that they had lost their decoy advantage. Cat agreed. “I think we’re going to have to go ourselves,” Cat said. JJ offered to go as backup.
“Make that we. No debate,” Gabi said. Chad refused to involve JJ or Gabi because he believed Clyde would have too many eyes on the meet site. “We got to find some way to turn the tables on him,” JJ said. Chad’s phone rang with a call from Steve. Steve gave Chad the address for Clyde’s apartment.
“You are gonna call in for backup with the local authorities first, right?” Steve asked. Chad argued that he did not have time to coordinate with the police. “You can thank me by not getting yourselves killed,” Steve said. After Chad ended the call, he announced that he and Cat would go to the club while JJ and Gabi investigated the apartment. “See if you can find locations for Abigail’s body and Cat’s mother,” Chad said.
With a shake of his head, JJ told Chad he did not want Chad to go to the club without backup. “Maybe we should call local PD,” JJ said. Cat objected. “If Clyde gets the heads up, he could kill my mother,” Cat said. Worried, JJ asked Chad how he would escape the trap. Gabi suggested that she and JJ would search the apartment for the evidence, and then call the police.
“We’ll make sure that your mother’s safe first,” Gabi said. Cat thanked Gabi. JJ asked Gabi if she was on Cat’s side. “Hating Clyde has a way of bringing people together,” Gabi said. “But does she hate him? How do we know she’s still not working with him?” JJ argued. Cat groaned. “I’m not working with the guy. I want him in chains as much as you all do,” Cat said. Chad told JJ that he understood his concerns, but they needed to trust Cat for now.
“What if Gabi and JJ come up empty?” Cat asked. JJ promised to text and keep them informed. Cat begged JJ not to call the police until her mother was safe. “I’m sorry, but that’s Chad’s call,” JJ said. “That’s how we’ll play it,” Chad agreed. JJ reminded Chad that he and Cat would be on their own.
When Jennifer arrived in the Horton town square, she asked Jack and Steve about JJ and Chad. “Chad and Cat are going to stall Weston while JJ and Gabi search [Clyde’s apartment] for information about Abigail,” Steve explained. “Well that doesn’t sound any less dangerous,” Jennifer complained. Jack argued that this plan might be the only chance they had to find Abigail’s body. “JJ is a really good detective. So if there is something to find, our son will find it,” Jennifer said.
When JJ and Gabi arrived at the apartment, JJ handed his gun to Gabi so that he could pick the lock. Once inside, JJ noted, “There’s no one here. We’ve got to work fast.” Gabi and JJ rooted through drawers. Gabi found a fake ID for Clyde. JJ located Clyde’s password-protected laptop. Gabi guessed the password. “If we’re lucky, this could be exactly what we’re looking for,” JJ said. Gabi turned and gasped. Clyde was standing in the doorway with a gun pointed at her.
At the Pink Kitten Club, Chad and Cat entered the back room, but no one was there. Chad pulled out a gun. “What the hell are you doing?” Cat said. Chad grabbed Cat and pulled her in front of him with the gun pointed at her back. “We need to make this look good,” Chad said. Chad called out for Clyde, but there was no answer. The door opened, and a woman pointed a gun at Chad and Cat. “Mom,” Cat said.
