It’s Christmas Day in Salem, but at Abe and Paulina’s, the birthday celebrations continue for the twins. Paulina wanted the kids to open all of their presents for Christmas and their birthday despite Lani’s objections. While they were all busy with gifts, Lani asked Eli to watch the kids as she wanted to visit an old friend before leaving Salem to go back home.
Alone together later, Abe and Paulina noted what a handful the grandkids were and reminisced about their kids at that age. Abe asked if Kayla was going to be Santa again at the hospital, but Paulina said rumor had it she was enlisting someone else. For Christmas, Paulina gave Abe a box of books about the greatest soap opera creators so he could learn from the best. Abe gave Paulina a bracelet with all the birthstones for the Price family line.
At the DiMera mansion, Rachel complained that she didn’t get what she wanted for Christmas: her parents back together. Rachel told Kristen that it was all her fault and how she handled the serum situation. Kristen admitted she handled it wrong, and it took her a long time to realize that she couldn’t force someone to want to be with you. Kristen added that Brady had moved on. “You mean with Ava Vitali?” Rachel fumed.
Kristen asked Rachel if she had been listening in on private conversations. Rachel admitted she’d heard Kristen asking Nonno’s portrait how to get rid of Ava. “I need to know — did Nonno tell you to lock Ava in the secret room? I need to know!” Rachel asked. Before Kristen could answer, Lani interrupted them. She couldn’t believe how grown up and beautiful Rachel was and told her so. “Female beauty is just a tool of the patriarchy,” Rachel replied.

Rachel said her snake, Edgar, had shed its skin, and she was going to put it in Harold’s bed. Lani laughed that she was such an angel after Rachel left the room, and Kristen joked that at least they knew she was hers. Lani showed Kristen pictures of the kids and noted how much her parents were spoiling them. Lani asked about Brady, and Kristen admitted that she was preventing Brady from seeing Rachel at Christmas until he stopped seeing “that tramp.”
Lani lectured Kristen that she knew it was wrong to keep Rachel from her father. When Rachel returned, they stopped talking about it, and Lani wished them Merry Christmas before needing to go back to Eli and the kids. Once alone, Rachel told Kristen she didn’t put the snake skin in Harold’s bed. Kristen told her she was relieved and that she had a little surprise for her. “What kind of surprise?” Rachel asked. “You’ll see,” Kristen said with a smile.
At the hospital, Roman came in and hugged Kayla. He said he got the message that she needed emergency help and asked what it was about. She handed him a Santa hat and told him to guess. Kayla said she was the last-minute replacement last year, but this year, she was on call. She didn’t want to be in the middle of handing out gifts only to be pulled away to deal with someone having a heart attack.
Roman reluctantly agreed to play Santa. He put on the suit, but he told Kayla he was already hot and it was hard to breathe. “Are you feeling okay?” Kayla asked. Roman told her he had a strange pain going down his left arm. “Am I having a heart attack?” Roman asked.
Kayla checked Roman in and tested him. He didn’t have a heart attack, but she suspected an allergic reaction to something in the suit. She gave him an antihistamine through an I.V. and thought it would clear up quickly. Roman was relieved, and also happy he didn’t have to play Santa. He asked if she would stand in again, but Kayla had another idea.
Paulina arrived at the hospital and read the Bible story of the birth of Jesus to the kids at the hospital. Lani, Eli, Abe, and the twins listened as Kayla stood by, smiling. Kayla got them to give the mayor a round of applause when she was done, which quickly turned into the kids chanting, “We want Santa!” Right on cue, the guy in the big red suit bellowed, “Ho! Ho! Ho!” as Abe came in wearing the suit.
A few minutes later, Kayla checked in on Roman, and he was out of bed and feeling much better. She told him to come see Santa. “Is that you, partner?!” Roman laughed. Lani noted to Eli that she was going to miss everyone. “We’ll be back in no time,” Eli assured her. He whipped out some mistletoe and held it over them while they kissed. Paulina told “Santa” that she’d been a very good girl, but all she wanted for Christmas was the love of her beloved husband. “You already have that, always and forever,” Abe assured her.
At the pub, Steve took a call from Joey. He explained he was helping Shane and that it had to do with John, but he couldn’t give him the details. Ava walked up, holding her phone, and told Steve she was talking to Tripp and that he wanted to say hi. Steve took the phone and said Merry Christmas to him. Tripp revealed that he had asked Wendy to marry him. “She said yes!” Ave squealed. Steve told Tripp he was happy for him.
After they got off their phone calls, Ava told Steve she had a case for Black Patch and showed him the harassing texts on her phone. “Stay away from Brady,” Steve read. He thought they were toothless threats. Ava still wanted them to stop. Steve agreed to take the case and asked if she had any suspects. Ava thought it was Kristen but didn’t know for sure.
Steve scanned Ava’s phone through his laptop, and it dinged. “Is that a good noise?” Ava asked. “It is. It means we hit pay dirt,” Steve told her. Steve said he couldn’t confirm where all of the messages came from, but he could tell that the last one came from the DiMera mansion. “I knew it,” Ava told him.
Brady came over to Marlena’s and found a bouquet of flowers at her door. She was hopeful they were from John when she read the card, but they were from her friend, Susan. Brady gave her a gift, a necklace with a locket. Brady explained that it belonged to his mother, and Marlena balked, thinking he should save it for Rachel. “Isabella would want my other mom to have it,” he said. Marlena teared up and hugged him. Brady told Marlena he wanted to see Rachel today, but her mother wouldn’t allow it.
Brady said because he wouldn’t be blackmailed into having a relationship with Kristen, she was preventing him from having a relationship with Rachel. “It doesn’t help matters that I’ve begun seeing Ava Vitali,” Brady added. Brady knew that Marlena didn’t approve. “You seem to get involved with troubled, dangerous women,” Marlena noted. Brady wondered if it was subconscious. Marlena just didn’t want to see Brady get hurt. Brady noted that they had only been on one date, and then she started getting strange text messages.
Brady got a phone call from Kristen, who told him that Rachel was missing her daddy. “So, how would you like to come over here and spend Christmas with your daughter?” Kristen suggested. After Brady left, Marlena called Shane. “I’m not asking for details. I’d just like to be able to talk to him,” she explained. Shane declined, and Marlena told him she understood. “I should be used to this by now,” Marlena said, but she couldn’t hide her disappointment. After she hung up the phone, she paced the room and cried.
Marlena was on the phone with Sami when Belle called. Marlena had just switched calls when there was a knock at the door. A delivery man dropped off a gift for her. Marlena sat down and opened the decorated gift box. Inside were fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Marlena gasped and then opened the note card that came with it. “Here’s to being caught up in the rapture of your love for many Christmases to come. Love always, John,” she read.
Brady came over to the DiMera mansion and gave Rachel her Christmas gifts, including frozen rats for Edgar. Rachel ran off to feed him one. Brady thanked Kristen for letting him see his daughter but wondered what changed his mind. Kristen admitted that a friend had told her it was wrong to punish Rachel. Brady said he was going to go, and Kristen asked if he was going to see Ava. Brady wondered if Kristen planned to send more threatening texts to her. “What are you talking about? I already told you I did not send that woman any texts,” Kristen told him adamantly. Brady asked if it wasn’t Kristen, then who it could have been. Meanwhile, Rachel had a phone and texted Ava, “Stay away from Brady…OR ELSE!”
