Cat tried calling Chad. She left a message letting him know that her mom was on her way to Clyde’s apartment and she had the gun. Aaron called and asked for an update. Cat confirmed that she found their mom. Cat had a flashback to how Catharina took her gun and went to get revenge on Clyde. “She kind of slipped through my fingers,” Cat told Aaron.

Cat explained that all she knew was Catharina was on her way to Clyde’s apartment with a gun and she was worried. Cat promised to call Aaron as soon as she knew anything. Cat searched Catharina’s purse for an address.

With JJ’s and Gabi’s guns pointed at him, Clyde admitted Chad won that round. He said he’d tell Chad the truth about Abigail but noted Chad wouldn’t like it. “Well, Abigail is–” Clyde started to say as a gunshot rang out. Clyde collapsed as JJ, Gabi, and Chad turned to see Catharina in the doorway, smoking gun in hand.

Gabi and JJ turned their guns on Catharina. She cried that Clyde was her friend and lied to her. “Damn him!” she said. “Damn him? Damn you! He was about to tell me about my wife, and now I may never know,” Chad said as she went to check if Clyde was alive. He felt Clyde’s pulse and yelled at him to wake up. Chad shook Clyde and yelled at him, saying that if he wanted help, he had to tell him what happened to Abigail. Clyde closed his eyes.

Catharina cried, saying that she was sorry, as Chad yelled at Clyde to wake up. JJ and Gabi said Clyde was losing a lot of blood. Chad told JJ to call an ambulance. He growled at Weston that he could not go until he told him where his wife’s body was. “We’re going to get you help,” Chad said.

Gabi couldn’t believe they were trying to save Clyde. After the EMTs took Clyde away, Cat burst in. JJ angrily told her that her mother shot Weston before he could tell Chad what he needed. When Cat heard that Catharina was at the hospital because she was in shock, she took off to see her.

JJ searched the apartment for clues. He thought the cops would soon arrive, so he wanted to find out what he could about Abigail while he and Gabi were still there.

JJ stressed out that Clyde would die and take the information with him. He couldn’t go home to his parents without answers. Gabi assured him that Abigail was resting in peace. She said that knowing where didn’t change the fact that Abigail was gone and not coming back. Gabi tried to comfort him by knowing he was the best brother Abigail could have ever hoped for. She suggested they go to the hospital.

At the hospital, Chad asked for an update on Clyde and was told his blood loss was too severe before they could get him into surgery. “You lost his pulse? Is he dead?” Chad asked.

Cat found Chad, and he told her that Clyde had flatlined in the ER, so he was in emergency surgery. Cat apologized and told him how Catharina remembered her, then tricked her and took her gun while they were hugging. Cat was worried that her mom was going to hurt Chad. He admitted he was worried about Cat as well.

Chad admitted that when he left her, Catharina was tied up, and Cat had a gun. So when Catharina showed up without her, he thought something might have happened to Cat. Chad lamented that everything had gotten so messed up. Cat didn’t understand how her mom shot Clyde. Just then, a policeman brought her into the room in cuffs. Catharina said she just wanted to hold her in her arms. “I wasn’t thinking clearly earlier. I’m still not,” Catharina said.

Cat told her mom that whatever that monster did to her, it wasn’t her fault. Catharina said that she loved all of her children and asked if they were all okay. She thanked Cat for finding and saving her. The police took her away before Cat could respond.

JJ and Gabi arrived at the hospital and wanted to know Clyde’s condition. JJ was upset and apologized to Chad for not being able to find any information at the apartment. A doctor came in and told Chad that Clyde had made it through surgery, but he was in a coma.

Tate and Holly hung out together while they tried to do homework. Aaron was supposed to come over, but he was distracted by his family issues. Tate left Aaron a voice message to let him know they were there for him.

Tate noted that it was about to be their first-year anniversary. He thought they should go on a real date to celebrate. They decided to take a break from studying and went to the Square. There, they ran into Aaron. He shared that he had just talked to Cat, and he still didn’t know what was going on.

Aaron said his mother was alive five minutes earlier but didn’t know if it was still true. He had to wait for Cat to call him back to know anything. Tate asked him to ice skate with them. Aaron thought he’d be bad company and wanted to get gifts for Felicity.

Holly offered to help him shop, but Aaron didn’t know where to begin. They finally decided on one gift, and Aaron said they needed seven more as they celebrated both Christmas and Chanukah. Aaron hoped his mom would come home for the holidays.

Aaron was worried about what would happen financially and with his education. Holly reminded him that her grandma was Victor Kiriakis’ widow and could easily get him money if he needed it. Aaron said he was lucky to have them as his friends.

After Aaron left, Tate apologized to Holly for inviting Aaron along on their date, but she was fine with it. She thought she wasn’t always a great friend to Sophia and wanted to be a better friend to Aaron.

Cat called Aaron and told her that their mom was arrested. She reminded him that Clyde was an escaped fugitive and she wouldn’t be blamed for whatever she did. Aaron wasn’t so sure since Mark hadn’t gotten out of jail. Cat assured him it would be okay.

When she hung up, she started to say that she’d understand if Chad wanted her mom locked up. Chad said he didn’t know what to think about anything. Cat knew how badly he wanted to find Abigail’s remains and said she was praying he found the information he needed.

At home, Steve was on the phone with Jack. Steve said that if anything went wrong, they would have heard about it. Kayla came home and said they finally found a replacement for Mark Greene. Steve still didn’t have news from Chad and wished he was there with them or could help.

Kayla said Steve needed a distraction and suggested he help her wrap gifts, but Steve said they needed a tree to put them under. They went to find a Christmas tree together.

When they returned, Steve teased Kayla that she got the saddest tree on the lot. Steve and Kayla sat together, went through some family ornaments, and recalled some memories. Kayla couldn’t stop thinking about how tough the holiday would be for the Hortons. They both had their hopes up that Bo was going to wake up. “Just like we did with Abigail,” Kayla said.

JJ called Steve and gave him an update on everything. Kayla thought it would be a relief for John that Catharina was alive. Steve said he could take down the wanted poster for Clyde.
