Sophia told Tate that she felt bad for EJ, but she was hopeful that his tragedy would help with the adoption. Tate told Sophia that Holly had dumped him. Sophia assured Tate that Holly would come around, but Tate argued that Doug was one too many problems for them to overcome. Amy agreed to reassess the adoption question if Johnny and Chanel could guarantee that EJ would not be a part of the child’s life.

Holly told Doug that she had broken up with Tate. Doug blamed himself, but Holly stressed that he was only a small part of her issues with Tate. After Holly left for school, Tate walked in on Doug in his underwear. Words were exchanged, and Tate punched Doug as Holly returned home. Holly explained that Doug had slept on the floor because he had been kicked out of his house. After the fight, Tate confessed to Sophia that he believed that his relationship with Holly was definitely over.

Kristen and Gabi accused one another of having shot EJ, but both denied the charge. JJ struggled with whether to ask Gabi if she had shot EJ. JJ confided to Shawn that he believed Gabi might have been capable of the crime. When JJ and Shawn went to the DiMera mansion to search Kristen’s belongings for evidence, JJ found Rachel Blake’s gun in Kristen’s purse. Melinda attempted to get Kristen released, but Kristen had to remain until the ballistics report on her gun was finished.

Wei Shin flew into town to hear Xander and Philip’s pitch for the takeover because of EJ’s incapacitation. With Kristen at the station for questioning, the group moved to have Shin vote by proxy and take over DiMera.

Belle visited EJ in the hospital, and she daydreamt that EJ woke up and forced her to admit that she loved him. Sami overheard Belle’s confession of love. Sami teased Belle, but she stressed that she did not care who EJ slept with. Sami said she was there for Johnny.

Gabi thought about the night of the shooting when she had stood in the garden with a gun and stared through the window at EJ. Gabi was snapped out of her memory when Xander and Philip appeared in her office and told Gabi that they were her new bosses. Xander explained that Wei Shin had gained control and agreed to a takeover by Titan. Philip explained that Wei Shin had also given away the rights to Gabi Chic in the takeover, so Gabi could not walk away. Gabi agreed to stay with Tita, but she warned the brothers that they would turn on each other to become sole CEO.

Rex visited Kate and assured her that EJ had not been behind his accident. Rex found Kate’s gun. Rex asked Roman whether he believed that Kate had shot EJ, and he was certain that Kate was not to blame. Roman thought about how he had returned his gun to the lockbox the night of the shooting.

Alex and Stephanie talked about whether to tell Xander the truth about Victor’s letter. Stephanie told Alex she would support whatever decision he made about the secret. Sarah attempted to confess to her lie, but she instead told Xander she had known about Philip’s affair with Stephanie and had not told him the truth about that. Alex argued with Sarah about her decision to keep the truth from Xander. Alex said he had a guilty conscience. Sarah pleaded with Alex to keep the peace, and he agreed it was too late to tell Xander.

Johnny told Chad about how he was conceived, and Chad admitted he had known the truth. Chad encouraged Johnny to visit his father or regret it. When Johnny arrived at the hospital, Sami was there. Sami admitted that she had been scared to call Johnny but wanted to explain her history to him. Sami recounted her past traumas and misdeeds, and she confirmed that she had been going to therapy. When Sami admitted that she had felt like she deserved to be assaulted, Johnny stressed that was not true. Sami agreed. Sami told Johnny that she could not regret what had happened because it had given her Johnny.

Philip asked Kate if she had shot EJ. Kate vehemently denied the accusation. Vivian interrupted Philip’s celebration with Kate, and she demanded half of Titan. When Philip noted that he could not take Xander’s half of the company, Vivian argued that Xander needed to be killed. Philip refused to kill his brother. When Vivian threatened to tell Xander about the letter, Philip hesitated to call her bluff. Vivian moved into the Kiriakis mansion.
