Kate needled Rex about his suggestion to Roman that she had shot EJ. Rex explained he had been worried because he knew Kate was overprotective. Rex added that he also had wondered if Roman had been the shooter, but Kate dismissed the idea.

Roman asked Kayla about EJ’s condition. When Kayla was suspicious, Roman explained that he was worried about his grandchildren. Kayla refused to update Roman because of HIPAA laws.

Philip confessed to Belle that Victor’s letter had been forged. Though upset, Belle admitted she had overlooked worse from EJ. Sarah apologized to Xander, but before she could tell him about her part in keeping Philip’s secret, Alex and Stephanie walked in. Xander asked the two of them if they had known. Stephanie admitted she had discovered the truth and broken up with Philip because of it. In private, Alex advised Sarah not to tell Xander about her involvement.

Wei Shin told Xander that they could not admit that Philip was not a real heir because it could jeopardize their claim on DiMera. Although Sarah felt guilty about her lies, she shook it off and went to the fundraiser with Xander. Xander stewed when he saw Philip at the fair. Xander asked JJ to arrest Philip for fraud, but he walked it back because of Wei Shin’s warning. Xander joked about killing his brother, and Sarah slapped his arm and assured JJ that Xander was not serious.

Xander saw Sarah talking with Philip. Sarah stressed to Xander that they should be civil for the family’s sake. Maggie asked Xander to try and forgive Philip because Victor would have wanted them to work together. Xander refused. Gabi asked Brady to help her get control of Gabi Chic from Xander and Philip, but he declined because of their past history.

Susan sat at EJ’s bedside, and she reached out to him psychically. Kayla started the process to revive EJ from his medically induced coma. EJ responded to Belle’s voice. When EJ woke up, Susan told him that he had been shot. Susan also told EJ that Belle had admitted her love for him. Belle still refused to talk about her feelings. When EJ pushed, Chad interrupted, and Belle ran off.

Susan ran into Gabi in the square, and she had a psychic premonition that Gabi had been at the DiMera mansion the night of the shooting. Susan told EJ. Gabi worried aloud that Susan had seen what she “had done.”

Chad apologized to his brother for the article, but EJ said he did not blame him. EJ struggled to remember the night of the shooting, but he only remembered his conversations with Belle, Chanel, and Kristen.

Johnny thanked Chad for convincing him to visit EJ in the hospital. Johnny told Chad about his conversation with Sami and how she had helped him understand her better. Johnny said that although he had forgiven his mother, he did not think he could get past his anger toward his father. Chad learned that EJ was awake. Johnny was shocked by the news, but he said he saw no point in talking to EJ.

Amy told Chanel that she had decided to let her and Johnny adopt Sophia’s baby. Sophia and Tate felt the baby kick as they practiced breathing. When the time came to sign the papers for the adoption, Tate and Sophia shared a look, but they signed the papers. Chanel told Johnny the good news when he returned home.

JJ confided to Chad that his relationship with Gabi was in trouble because he had questioned her about EJ’s shooting. Cat advised JJ to have hope that Gabi would forgive him, just like Chad had forgiven her. A dejected Gabi told Javi and Leo about JJ’s accusations. Javi and Leo encouraged Gabi to bid on someone at the bachelor auction to make JJ jealous. Maggie bid one million for a date with Chad.

The hospital fundraiser kicked off. Cat painted the faces of Chad’s children as he watched. Thomas pushed Chad into letting Cat paint his face. Chad and Cat celebrated their efforts on the fundraiser. At the bachelor auction, there was a bidding war for Alex, but Gabi shut it down with a massive bid when she saw JJ enter.

Kristen paid EJ a visit to interrogate him. EJ claimed he did not know what had happened to Rachel Blake. When Kristen asked EJ to support her efforts to reclaim the family business, EJ declined. EJ explained that he had realized that he needed to change his ways and be a better person. EJ told Kristen about Susan’s vision of Gabi. When EJ said he forgave Kristen if she had been the shooter, Kristen told him that she did not believe that he had reformed.

JJ asked Kayla for permission to question EJ. When JJ got to the hospital, he overheard Kristen threatening EJ. EJ claimed that he did not remember who had shot him. Kayla told EJ that Sami and Johnny had visited him while he had been in a coma.

Ballistics confirmed that the caliber of bullet in the shooting matched Melinda’s gun caliber, but they could not match it to Melinda’s gun. Ava was named as the prime suspect. When Shawn went to question EJ, he overheard Belle confess her feelings. EJ and Belle decided to forge ahead with their romance. EJ remembered that he had found a recorder hidden on his desk, and he had removed the memory card. Rafe was disappointed to learn that his recording device at the DiMera mansion had been sabotaged.

Jada ended her relationship with Rafe. Rafe decided to take a job with the FBI out of town so that there would be a clean break. Jada shared a meal with Shawn, and he told her about Belle’s feelings for EJ. Hope called Shawn and told him that there was bad news about Bo.
