Could Days of our Lives' Leo really be John Black's son?

Back in 2019, Days of our Lives' John Black and Leo Stark spent a few weeks believing that they were father and son. Leo loved the idea of being related to John, but ultimately, his mother had to confess that she lied, and Leo wasn't John's son after all. But, what if she was lying then?

The original Diana Colville, who almost married John in the 1980s, was not the liar louse that raised Leo (Greg Rikaart). Played by Genie Francis back then, Diana was a heroine who loved John (the late Drake Hogestyn) with all her heart. At the time, he thought he was really Roman Brady, but that was neither here nor there. "Roman" and Diana were very much in love, and she very well could have been pregnant with his child when she left town.

When Diana resurfaced six years ago played by Judith Chapman, she was a completely different character. She was vain and shallow — and apparently, a horrible mother to Leo, whose given name is Matthew. She's proven multiple times she will tell tall tales whenever it's to her advantage, so it stands to reason that Leo doesn't truly know the truth about his paternity.

Just what Marlena needs

In the years since Leo almost became a member of the Black family, he has developed a sweet and beautiful friendship with the clan's matriarch, Marlena (Deidre Hall). The scenes this past week when Marlena and Leo decided they were BFFs (with Leo explaining that best friends fall on a spectrum) could only make us smile.

We know that Marlena is going to get devastating news sooner rather than later when she learns that John died on his latest assignment. John's death was necessitated by Drake Hogestyn's illness and tragic passing last fall. Marlena is already worried sick about John. When she gets this life-altering news, she will need all the comfort she can get.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we learned that Diana had lied about Leo's paternity and he really is John's son after all? That would give poor Marlena a piece of her beloved John in the form of her new best friend.

Deidre Hall and Greg Rikaart have a lovely chemistry that lights up the screen, and it's easy to see how much they enjoy working together. Making Marlena Leo's stepmom as an alternative to the monstrous woman who is his real mom would be a treat for Leo, Marlena, and fans. With soap operas, DNA, and eternal paternity puzzles, you never know...
