At the police station, Tate visited Brady and said he wanted to understand what had happened. Brady explained that he didn’t remember anything, but he was ashamed he'd been so drunk that he had no memory of the accident. Brady said that he had hoped to reunite with Theresa. When she had married Alex, he'd realized that dream was over, and he'd relapsed. Tate realized his dad had been drinking for weeks and had hidden it.
Brady said he would understand if Tate wanted nothing to do with him. Tate didn’t think Brady would go to prison, as Sarah was a doctor, and she understood that he had a disease. “Everyone will forgive you. I already have,” Tate told his dad.
Sarah was determined to lift herself out of the wheelchair and into the bed independently, but she struggled. Maggie and Holly rushed to help her. Holly apologized again to Sarah for not putting the cabin key back properly. Sarah insisted that was not the cause of the accident. “If you want to feel guilty about lying, okay, but not about the accident. There is one person to blame, and it’s not you,” Sarah said.
Xander was angry at Justin for defending Brady, but Fiona interrupted to say it had been an accident. Justin told Xander that Brady had a disease and was remorseful. Justin reminded Xander that Brady was family and that Brady had forgiven Xander when Xander had held Justin’s wife hostage. Xander snapped that Justin hadn’t defended him back then. Justin said Xander was lucky he didn’t need a lawyer at that moment, after trying to choke Brady. Xander said he would break Brady’s neck the next time he saw him.

Marlena sat with John as he called people to update them about Brady. John told Marlena that Belle wanted to return home to represent Brady and that Paul had offered to return for moral support. John said his dad was sad for all of them and sad that Brady had fallen off the wagon. John said the phone calls were a lot for him, and Marlena said they would get through it together.
After John left to visit Brady, Eric arrived from Paris. He and Marlena discussed Brady, and then Eric told Marlena that he felt a tremendous amount of sadness and remorse since being back. Eric explained that Holly still didn’t know that Eric was responsible for Holly’s father’s death. Eric added that when E.J. and Nicole had split up, E.J. had threatened to tell Holly the truth. Eric said he and Nicole had decided that since he was heading to town, he would tell Holly about the accident before she heard it from someone else.
When John met with Brady, he was taken aback when Brady said he would pay for his crime and plead guilty. “I respect your decision to want to take responsibility, but how can you even do that if you don’t have all the facts?” John asked. John adamantly urged Brady to not plead guilty until they had the whole story. “There may be mitigating circumstances. For all we know, there’s a hell of a lot more to this story,” John said.
Xander and Fiona went to talk to Sarah in her bedroom. Xander complained that Justin wouldn’t ditch Brady as a client, but Sarah understood Justin’s reasoning. Fiona said they should focus on recovery and promised to be a pillar of support for Sarah. As Sarah listened to Fiona say that she was grateful the accident hadn’t been worse, Sarah had a flashback of the car that had hit her and could see a blurry version of the driver.
Justin told Maggie that Xander had asked him to drop Brady as a client. Justin wanted her opinion. Maggie said she didn’t want Justin to stop defending Brady. Maggie said she was horrified that Brady had done a drunken hit-and-run and that he hadn’t gone to her for help. “I had reassured Brady over and over that all he had to do was call me, no matter what,” Maggie said. Maggie added that she had told Brady that she would be there if he was impaired, get him back on track, and prevent him from destroying himself or anyone else. “Especially from getting behind the wheel when he had been drinking. Which is why it’s so hard to believe that he actually did this,” Maggie said.
Tate and Holly met in the park and comforted each other. Tate said he'd seen his dad and felt sorry for him. Holly argued that Brady belonged in jail. Tate said his dad felt horrible, but it had been an accident. Holly said that it hadn’t been an accident; it was a crime that could have been prevented. “I wish you wouldn't be so judgmental about this. You know I feel bad about your Aunt Sarah, and he does, too. It’s not black and white,” Tate said.
Holly ranted that Brady should have dealt with his alcoholism on his own and not affected someone else. “I have no compassion. My own father was killed by a drunk driver,” Holly said. Tate softened and said, “That makes this even harder to talk about, but that was a terrible accident, too. You forgave Eric, right?” Holly stared at Tate and said, “Forgave Eric? What do you mean?”
