Days of our Lives' Kristian Alfonso weighs in on the fate of Bo and Hope

With Kristian Alfonso returning to Days of our Lives, will Bo and Hope finally get their happily ever after?

When Days of our Lives and Salem say goodbye to Doug Williams in December, his "Princess" Hope will indeed be there. As Soap Central reported yesterday, Kristian Alfonso reported to work at DAYS on April 22 so Hope could bid a final farewell to her dad. It also allowed Alfonso to honor the late Bill Hayes, who brought Doug to life for more than 50 years.

But what happens when DAYS closes the chapter on Doug's life? Will Hope stay in Salem a little longer? And what about her beloved Bo? The last we saw Hope a little over a year ago, she had just learned that Bo was still alive after he seemed to die in her arms from a brain tumor back in 2015. However, their son Shawn shot his father, thinking his mother was in danger, leaving Bo in a coma where he remains to this day.

When Bo and Hope's last return was announced, fans of the longtime couple thought they would finally get the happy ending they'd craved for eight years. Sadly, that was not meant to be. Alfonso had hoped for it, but the story Head Writer Ron Carlivati wrote was changed at the last minute, and the result of that change is what we saw on-screen.

"I'm sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron had planned," Alfonso told TV Insider. "It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it."

While Alfonso will never share much-wanted scenes with Hayes again, there is always a chance that Bo could suddenly wake from his coma and declare his love for his "Fancy Face" again. As Alfonso and Peter Reckell celebrate 41 years since their DAYS debut this spring, might we learn about another return on the horizon that could finally reunite the couple known as "Bope"?

"What I will say is don't give up hope," Alfonso teased.

Does that mean Hope and her forever hero Bo will one day ride off into the sunset on his motorcycle? Time will tell.
