VIDEO: Steve Burton previews his return as Harris Michaels on Days of our Lives

It's been more than three decades since Steve Burton last regularly played Days of our Lives' Harris Michaels. What brings the character back? The actor offers a preview.

We're just ten days away from Steve Burton reprising the role of Harris Michaels on Days of our Lives. It will also mark Burton's full-time return to soaps.

In a conversation with co-star Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis, DAYS; Ned Quartermaine, General Hospital), Burton looked back at his early days on DAYS and also talked about what's ahead for his character.

Burton's daytime career started as Harris on Days of our Lives in 1988. It wasn't until 34 years later that Burton stepped back into role on the DAYS spinoff series Beyond Salem.

It isn't as if Burton wasn't busy in that three-decade timespan. From 1990 to 2012, Burton starred as Jason Morgan on ABC's General Hospital. In 1998, Burton took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

The actor jumped ship to CBS' The Young and the Restless from 2013 through 2017. There he played Dylan McAvoy and picked up the second Outstanding Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy of his career in 2017.

After his four-year stint at Y&R, Burton returned to General Hospital. In 2021, Burton and GH parted ways when the actor opted not to comply with the network's COVID-19 vaccination policy.

When Burton joined Beyond Salem: Chapter Two last year, Harris resurfaced as the man in Hope Brady's life. There was just a minor issue: Harris was brainwashed by Megan Hathaway to kill Hope. Megan was also holding Hope's true love, Bo Brady, in some sort of cryogenic chamber, though no one knew it at the time.

So, what brings Harris Michaels back after all this time? "For redemption because of the bad things he did; he wants to make it right," Burton said.
