Kate Mansi has a new role on Days of our Lives -- she's now a director!

Days of our Lives star Kate Mansi (Abigail Deveraux) has gone behind the scenes at the NBC soap opera, where, in addition to acting, she's now directing.

Days of our Lives star Kate Mansi has already proven she's a damn good actress, having won a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category for her work as Abigail Deveraux. And now she's trying her hand at another job with the NBC soap opera: director.

Mansi took to Instagram to share that she has "dipped her toe" into the field of directing and that the experience has made her eager to continue with the behind-the-camera challenge. The actress shared a photo of her belongings on the director's booth along with the caption:

"This picture is special. Here's why: I took it right before I dove into my very first day ever directing. I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to have dipped my toe into this field, especially having done so under the care of a fearless female (+fellow Italian!!!) mentor. Thank you to everyone who allowed me the privilege of observing & shadowing your work these last few months. I'm in awe of your Matrix world & honored to be among you. And also... I can't wait for more!!!"

Mansi's first moments as director on Days of our Lives' new digital series were made all the more special by her on-screen mom, Melissa Reeves (Jennifer Horton), who acted like a real-life mom and captured her on-screen daughter's big career occasion with a series of "first day" photos.

Says Mansi of the touching support she received from her fictional mother, "Before I started the day, @missyreeves came in the booth to take photos of me on my first day, (as any decent mamma would do)... but after a few snaps I had to literally ask her to leave bc she was blocking all the monitors trying to get a good shot. That's a Mamma for ya! Thank you Missy, in hindsight I'm so grateful you insisted on 'just one more picture.'"

Soap Central has reached out to DAYS' publicity department for more information about when Mansi's episode (or episodes) will air. Keep checking back for further details about Mansi's new directing jobs as they come.

Mansi first played the role of Abigail from 2011 to 2016, after which she exited the series to focus on other projects. Actress Marci Miller stepped into the shoes of Jennifer's daughter upon Mansi's departure and played the role until 2018, earning a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for her brief work on the show. When Miller made the surprising announcement that she planned to leave DAYS after just two years, the NBC soap brought Mansi back into the role for a short arc meant to tie up the character's storyline. However, it was announced in May of this year that Mansi would be returning to DAYS once again, alongside Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera), later this fall. In the meantime, Chabby fans can check out what the Salem couple has been up to since getting married and moving to Paris via the soap's digital companion series, Chad and Abigail in Paris.
