DAYS' Ron Carlivati renews his contract as head writer

Ron Carlivati has renewed his contract at Days of our Lives, meaning he'll continue to bring drama to Salem as the series' head writer.

Great news for fans who've been loving all the recent drama on Days of our Lives: the show's head writer, Ron Carlivati, has extended his contract with the NBC soap opera. Soap Opera Digest broke the news of the scribe's new deal with the series, which he joined in 2017.

Carlivati has seen many successes since joining the DAYS family, including multiple Daytime Emmy wins and a major bump in ratings. He is also widely credited for helping the soap opera obtain a renewal for its 55th season.

The New York native has made a serious effort to focus on the vets since taking the reins at DAYS. When he started with the series nearly two years ago, he called the show's cast and history an embarrassment of riches.

"Having grown up watching soaps, I often gravitated to the characters that had been on for a long time, so what's great about DAYS is, there's a deep bench of characters like that with Steve and Kayla and Hope and John and Marlena and the DiMeras and Stefano, who sadly has passed away, but you still have Andre and his family, and you have Victor Kiriakis," he said at the time. "You have an embarrassment of riches."

He continues, "What I love about soaps is classic soap opera storytelling. I've watched soaps for a long time, so I think you have to respond to the history of the show, and the audience wants to see that. And because I'm a fan, I'd like to think that I think like a fan and [write] what the fans will want to see."

Carlivati's previous head writing credits include General Hospital and One Life to Live.
