Drake Hogestyn lands first non-DAYS gig in over two decades

Days of our Lives leading man Drake Hogestyn (John Black) is heading to the primetime hit series Criminal Minds -- his first acting gig outside of Salem since 1993.

Days of our Lives viewers will soon have to share popular daytime star Drake Hogestyn (John Black) with the masses. The Indiana native has booked a role on the CBS primetime series Criminal Minds.

Hogestyn took to Twitter to share the news, writing: "As I pier' into this week...filming an episode of #CriminalMinds is on the Horizon."

Criminal Minds is a police procedural drama that follows a group of FBI profilers set on catching criminals through behavioral profiling. The plot focuses on the team working cases and on the personal lives of the characters, depicting the hardened life and statutory requirements of a profiler. At this time, Hogestyn's character details and airdate are unknown.

According to Hogestyn's IMDb page, this is the actor's first non-daytime gig since 1993, leaving some fans wondering why he's suddenly seeking gigs outside of DAYS. Time will tell if there's something going on behind-the-scenes or if Hogestyn just needed a change of pace. Either way, it's extremely exciting to see the beloved daytime staple spread his wings and give something else a try. Here's hoping the mainstream exposure will somehow lead him one step closer to finally winning a Daytime Emmy!
