DAYS exec spills why it's vital fans tune in again

Days of our Lives' executive producer Ken Corday explains why watching Salem shenanigans is more important than ever.

Days of our Lives has been so good lately, fans likely don't need any executives trying to prove it; the material speaks for itself. That being said, the soap's executive producer, Ken Corday, can't help but gush over how much the series has improved in recent months under the direction of head writer Ron Carlivati.

"We're seeing people we want to see and stories that are entertaining. He's a smart cookie," Corday told Soap Opera Digest of the former General Hospital and One Life to Live scribe. "He knows how to play his cards, so he has delivered what he promised to deliver when he came in, and I am happy with it. I think the viewers are happy with it. I haven't heard a lot of blowback."

One of the main things Carlivati is doing right, according to the exec, is paying serious attention to the history of the show -- which just celebrated 53 years on the air.

"[I'm] really encouraged that he did his homework. He dug into a lot of history on the show and he's paying homage to that history, as opposed to bringing in a lot of new characters and telling stories for people that we don't care about," he opines. "I love his ability to craft day-to-day, week-to-week stories with people from 10 or 20 years ago that are still vital. That's the sign of a writer who is a strong head writer, as opposed to someone that wants to create a new canvas. I am thrilled with him and thrilled with his reboot of the show."
