It appears that Days of our Lives is preparing to right one of its biggest wrongs: killing off Will Horton. Emmy winner Chandler Massey is returning to the NBC soap to reprise the show's groundbreaking character.
When Days of our Lives killed off Will Horton in 2015, the fan response was swift and overwhelmingly critical. How could the NBC soap kill a groundbreaking character from one of the show's core families? Nearly two years later and with a new head writer in place, it appears that DAYS is finally acknowledging that it made a huge mistake.
Three-time Emmy winner Chandler Massey is reprising the role of Will Horton, a role he exited back in early 2014.
"I am so excited to be bringing Will back to Salem!" Massey told Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news of his return. "I can't wait for the fans to see what we have planned. You won't want to miss it!"

Massey and fans will have to wait, though. Due to DAYS' production schedule Massey will not appear on-screen until sometime in September. This is also right around the time that Alison Sweeney will reprise her role as Sami.
So far, the show is not revealing how it will explain Will's resurrection. Still, it doesn't come as much of a surprise that the show's newly hired head writer Ron Carlivati would want to have Will back on the canvas. During his tenure at One Life to Live, Carlivati created the same-sex super-couple of Oliver Fish and Kyle Lewis, affectionately known as "Kish." Carlivati also developed storylines involving gay characters when he worked as head writer on General Hospital.
Massey announced in June 2013 that he would be exiting DAYS when his contracted expired at the end of that year. DAYS, however, hired Guy Wilson for the role and announced that it had reached a "mutual decision" with Massey to recast the role immediately.
DAYS costars are just beginning to weigh in on the return. To read what Guy Wilson, the last actor to play Will, had to say click here. Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera) promised Chandler something very special.
