Vincent Irizarry out at Days of our Lives

Emmy winner Vincent Irizarry has wrapped up his time on Days of our Lives. The actor first appeared on the NBC soap in January 2016.

Vincent Irizarry (Deimos Kiriakis) has wrapped up his stint at Days of our Lives, multiple sources have confirmed to Soap Central. While the news that he was let go will come as a crushing blow to his fans, those fans can find some solace in knowing that the actor will continue airing well into mid-2017 due to DAYS' production schedule.

Irizarry announced his addition to the DAYS cast in August 2015 on Facebook, admitting that he had "been excitedly holding in for over a month." The character first appeared on-air on January 18, 2016. Over the last year, Deimos has been front and center in storyline.

The Emmy-winning actor joined DAYS after a long and successful run as David Hayward on ABC's All My Children. During his time on the ABC soap, Irizarry was a romantic partner for daytime icons Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) and Finola Hughes (Anna Devane).

Fans have been clamoring for Irizarry to jump to ABC's General Hospital and reunite with Hughes -- whose alter ego has been back on the GH canvas since 2006 -- since All My Children's cancellation in 2011. That was impossible at the time due to a licensing deal between ABC and Prospect Park, which launched an online version of AMC and One Life to Live in 2013. The rights to the characters of both of those soaps were tied up in legal wrangling until December 2016 when a judge dismissed Prospect Park's multi-million-dollar lawsuit against ABC, and the rights to All My Children and One Life to Live reverted back to ABC.

In theory, ABC could introduce any past characters from either AMC or OLTL into the General Hospital canvas at any time. To date, the network has announced its plans to weave just one of those characters into GH plots. There are also rumors that All My Children could be revived on Netflix.

Irizarry has also previously appeared on CBS' The Young and the Restless. From 2007 to 2008 he played the role of David Chow. Revisiting that role could be somewhat problematic, since the show killed off the character.

Irizarry began his daytime career as Brandon "Lujack" Luvanoczeck on Guiding Light and later as Lujack's twin Nick McHenry Spaulding. Irizarry has also appeared as Scott Clark on Santa Barbara.

A Days of our Lives spokesperson reminds Soap Central that the show does not comment on contracts and casting.
