Alison Sweeney and AMC's Cameron Mathison join forces for sweet new gig

Alison Sweeney is set to serve up batches of fun in Hallmark's Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, her first acting project post-DAYS. And it looks like former AMC star Cameron Mathison will be along for the ride.

Alison Sweeney (Samantha Brady) may have walked away from her 22-year run as Days of our Lives' Sami Brady, but her cookie definitely hasn't crumbled. In fact, her latest project proves it's just getting started.

The Biggest Loser host has been hired as the lead in Hallmark Movies and Mysteries' new movie franchise, Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, based on the New York Times bestselling series of books by Joanne Fluke and due sometime this spring.

The films center on Hannah Swensen (Sweeney), owner of the Cookie Jar, which is a sweet shop where most of the town's gossip is baked up. When a mysterious murder occurs, Hannah morphs into a culinary detective and tries solving the crime, all the while being swept away in a romantic mystery of her own.

But will Hannah's new lover be played by former All My Children actor Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan Lavery)? It seems to be so, as the actor tweeted that he's looking forward to working with the actress on the Hallmark movie series.

Sweeney recently starred opposite former DAYS' costar Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady) in Hallmark Channel's Second Chances, which was one of the highest-rated films in the channel's history. She's also set to star in and executive produce Radio Hype, which is currently in development for Hallmark Channel. Meanwhile, Mathison has been busy hosting and corresponding for shows like GMA, Entertainment Tonight, and Ultimate Proposal in addition to starring in independent films and television movies.

The first installment -- Murder She Baked -- will premiere Saturday, May 2 at 9:00 PM.
