Alison Sweeney visits The Steve Harvey Show

The end of Alison Sweeney's 21-year run on Days of our Lives has been an emotional time for both Sweeney and on-screen mother, Deidre Hall.

Deidre Hall and Alison Sweeney have played mother and daughter on DAYS for over twenty years. Hall debuted on the soap as Marlena Evans in 1976, and Sweeney took over the role of Marlena's daughter, the troubled and devious but ultimately sympathetic Sami Brady, in January of 1993.

NBCUniversal's The Steve Harvey Show is delivering a special holiday gift to Days of our Lives fans on Tuesday, December 16: Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami Brady).

The actress will be dropping by the syndicated talk show to dish about DAYS, directing, The Biggest Loser, and her novel, "Scared Scriptless." She'll also be discussing her holiday traditions at home (including her children's love of Elf on the Shelf), and how she stays strong and sticks to her diet during the very tempting holiday season.

"The advice I get asked all the time is, 'How do you do it? Give me some tips! Tell me your secret," she tells Harvey of holiday dieting tips. "What I try to say is there's not one secret, there's not one thing that magically makes it all better. It's everyday, you just have to make the right choices, and in the holidays, it's really hard. Really hard. You go to parties and there's buffets and there's dessert, baskets everywhere, and it's really hard not to be tempted."

Sweeney says she's also had to stay strong when it comes to her DAYS history, because she misses the show and her former co-stars every day. "It was really hard to leave," she reveals to Harvey. "[Deidre Hall] played my mom, [Marlena Evans], on the show for 22 years. So it was really hard not to be there everyday. It's hard not to see those people, the crew that you're so close to. I still check in with them on Facebook and stuff, but I miss them. I've been back to direct a few times so that was really fun, but it's hard. It's hard to be away from them."
