Freddie Smith pleads guilty to car crash charges

Days of our Lives star Freddie Smith is free on bond after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a DUI-related car crash.

Days of our Lives star Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) pleaded guilty yesterday in Ashtabula Ohio County Common Pleas Court to charges stemming from an October 7 car accident that critically injured his girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit.

The 26-year-old DAYS actor pleaded guilty to vehicular assault, a fourth-degree felony, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor. He could face up to 24 months in jail and possible suspension of his driver's license.

As previously reported by Soap Central, Smith's 2009 Mazda 6 was traveling westbound on State Route 84. He failed to safely negotiate a left curve and lost control. According to a police report, the car "crossed the centerline, traveled the left side of the road and struck a culvert [which] caused the car to overturn end over end." Tabit was temporarily trapped inside.

Smith's blood alcohol level was .093, higher than the .08 legal limit in Ohio.

Smith remains free on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled for sentencing on February 18, 2015.
