Christie Clark, Patrick Muldoon returning to DAYS

Austin and Carrie are headed back to Salem later this year. NBC has confirmed that Christie Clark and Patrick Muldoon will reprise their roles in September. Clark last appeared on DAYS in February, but Muldoon has been away from daytime since 1995.

Another of Days of our Lives' most popular couples will be headed back to Salem. NBC has announced that Christie Clark (Carrie Brady) and Patrick Muldoon (Austin Reed) will return to DAYS this fall.

"The news is out! Carrie and Austin are back," newly appointed Days of our Lives co-head writer Marlene McPherson posted on Twitter. "We have fun in store for everyone! New shows start taping Monday [July 11]! Can't wait!"

Clark made her first Days of our Lives appearance in 1986 and remained with the show on a full-time basis through 1999, with a two-year hiatus starting in 1990. She returned to the show in 2005 before again exiting in 2006. Last year, Clark made a short-term return to DAYS as part of the soap's tribute to the late Frances Reid (Alice Horton). Clark also appeared on a handful of episodes in February of this year.

When Clark returned to DAYS in 2010, there was chatter that she might be joined by her former co-star, Patrick Muldoon. The rumors started when Alison Sweeney (Samantha Brady) posted on her personal Twitter account that she, Clark, and Muldoon were having lunch.

"I am sitting in the NBC commissary having lunch with Christie Clark and Patrick Muldoon," Sweeney posted. "It is still 2010, right?!"

Obviously, nothing came of rumors, and Clark later explained that Muldoon's appearance at NBC was making good on a dinner date he'd skipped out on.

Muldoon has been away from daytime for more than 15 years. The actor joined Days of our Lives in 1992 when he originated the role of Austin, and remained with the show for three years. After his DAYS stint wrapped up, Muldoon moved to the world of primetime soaps, appearing as Richard Hart on the FOX series Melrose Place. He's also appeared in about a dozen movies, including the Oscar-nominated science fiction flick Starship Troopers.

Austin was last seen on-screen in October 2006 when the role was played by actor Austin Peck.

A first airdate has not yet been announced for Clark and Muldoon, but it isn't expected to take place until the end of September.
