Days of Our Lives star Eric Martsolf (Brady Black) has landed the role of Booster Gold, Smallville's egomaniacal hero, who plays a pivotal part in helping Clark Kent embrace his Superman identity. In an interview with TVLine, Martsolf described his "cheesy" character as "a big block of Velveeta wrapped in gold."

Martsolf admitted that, as a boy, he'd worn Superman Underoos; thus, he was proud to participate in the Smallville legacy. According to Martsolf, Booster Gold shamelessly flies about and proudly adorns his giant cape. Kent's interactions with Booster will cause Kent to shed his cocoon image of "The Blur" to become Superman. Booster Gold is not all superhero cheese, though. Martsolf hinted that his character also has a heart-wrenching backstory, which makes him a good, but misguided, man.

When asked for his opinion on the current state of daytime, Martsolf offered, "People say that the soap genre is going away, and in my humble opinion I don't believe it is ... In the long run, they're going to find that canceling these soaps that have been around for decades is probably not a wise move."

Eric Martsolf began his career in daytime in 2002 in the role of Ethan Winthrop on Passions. In 2008, after the cancellation of Passions, he reinvented the role of Days of our Lives' Brady Black.

Martsolf's Booster Gold makes his one-time debut in on Smallville on Friday, April 29, 2010, on the CW. Check local listing for show times.
