In what is becoming a weekly occurrence, Days of our Lives has sent out another batch of pink slips. The latest round of casting cuts continues down a path towards accomplishing two goals: paring the cast and budget of non-essential characters and allowing new head writer Hogan Sheffer to work his own magic on the show.
Rhasaan Orange (Tek Kramer) is one of the latest casualties of the cast cuts. The actor has seen his contract status change more times with the NBC than any performer in recent memory. Orange joined the DAYS cast in June 2003 as a recurring player. He was placed on contract from November 2003 to 2004 before again being dropped to recurring status. After about six months on recurring, Orange was elevated back to contract status. In June 2006, Orange was once again demoted to recurring - but by September he was back on as a contract player.
The rollercoaster ride will soon be over for Orange: he will exit the show permanently in January.
Astute readers already know that Soap Central previously reported that long-time fan favorite Renee Jones (Lexie Carver) will be exiting the show in the New Year. The pair will be written off the show together.

Meanwhile, Judi Evans (Bonnie Lockhart) also finds herself on the outside of Sheffer's vision of DAYS. Evans has been a part of the Days of our Lives cast since 2003, but it wasn't her first visit to Salem. In the 80s and 90s, Evans enjoyed a six-year run as Adrienne Johnson Kiriakis. In addition to her DAYS work, Evans is also a veteran of Guiding Light and Another World.
While fans will certainly be upset that the effervescent actress is leaving DAYS, the actress will have little time to mourn her firing. Evans is currently at work as a writer and producer for the show Trailer Court Justice, a scripted-and-improvisational comedy about court shows. The series has just been picked up by the CMT (Country Music Television) network. Filming is slated for January with a first air-date sometime later this winter.
A DAYS spokesperson did not make final airdates for Orange or Evans available at this time.
