Eastenders first appeared on the BBC in 1985 and has been widening its audience ever since. As the name suggests, Eastenders is a British daily soap set in the fictional Walford borough said to be situated in the East End of London.
At the centre of the daily soap drama are several families such as the Beales, the Slaters, the Mitchells, the Watts and the Brannings. The BBC One show has endeared itself to audiences from all walks of society owing to its large ensemble cast that has representation from every section of the population.
Previously EastEnders was exclusively available on BritBox apart from its regular telecast on BBC One. Users of BritBox in the UK had the privilege to stream new episodes of the daily soap on the streaming platform right after their initial telecast.
However, as of this writing, BritBox as a streaming service has come to the end of its road and the entirety of its content has been absorbed by ITVX Premium. This is the reason why the daily soap isn't available on BritBox anymore, but the episodes can be streamed on ITVX Premium.
Where can one watch Eastenders in the US?
For fans of Eastenders living across the pond in the US, a Virtual Private Network or a VPN is the best way to watch all the new episodes. The show is available to stream for free of cost on the official website of BBC, however, the catch is that one must be located in the UK to access this feature.
VPN clients such as Nord VPN and Express VPN can be used to connect to access the episodes. Express VPN offers a six month plan that costs as low as $9.99 per month.
Does BritBox have old episodes of Eastenders?
Before BritBox went out of currency, it did contain the previous episodes of the show. However, now that the streaming platform is defunct and all of its content has shifted to ITVX, users can now access the daily soap on the latter platform.
BritBox originally came into being in 2019 as a joint venture between BBC and ITV. The intention was to match up to the competition provided by streaming platform giants such as Netflix.
ITV later ended up purchasing all of the BBC's share in BritBox, assuming sole ownership of the platform. ITV then proceeded to launch ITVX in 2022 and the latter began absorbing all of the content that was hitherto put up on BritBox.
What is going on with BritBox?
BritBox eventually became redundant as ITV focused it's attention on ITVX. During an official statement released in early 2024, ITV CEO Carolyn McCall had mentioned:
"In 2024, the BritBox UK service on Amazon Prime Video Channels and the BritBox UK standalone app will close as we further simplify our offering. This will consolidate all our subscribers under one ITVX Premium brand and will give us complete ownership of the subscriber base. The closure of these services is expected to impact subscriber numbers and subscription revenues in 2024."
Eastenders airs exclusively on BBC One.
