10) Gabi’s interference in Chad’s life
Gabi Hernandez has repeatedly been a disruptive presence in Chad DiMera’s life. She schemed to hide the truth about Abigail’s child being Chad’s, leading to Julie falling down the stairs and slipping into a coma. That wasn’t all—she had previously tried to break Chad and Melanie’s relationship by pretending to be a victim of stalking, which caused Chad to despise her for a long time.
9) Steve’s arrest

In 2018, one of the most disappointing storylines involved Steve Johnson’s arrest after losing his eyesight due to poison.
Even though Kayla made a deal with Stefan DiMera to help Steve, he was suddenly arrested for espionage and didn’t return to Salem for a long time. Later, he was captured by Stefano, who used his body as an AI and pretended to be Steve.
8) The Salem Stalker

The Salem Stalker storyline, introduced in 2003, initially received praise from fans.
It appeared to kill off many beloved characters, such as Roman Brady and Maggie Horton. However, it was later revealed that none of the characters had actually died—they had been kidnapped and taken to an island. This revelation frustrated fans, as it made the emotional impact of those deaths meaningless.
7) Lexie switches the baby

One of the most disappointing baby-switch storylines in Days of Our Lives involved Lexie and Hope’s children.
Lexie’s father, Stefano DiMera, orchestrated the switch between Hope’s baby and Lexie’s adopted child. The biggest disappointment came when, even after learning the truth, Lexie tried to keep Hope and Bo’s son. Lexie had been considered a good-hearted character, so fans struggled to accept her sudden turn into a schemer and manipulator.
6) Sami disguises as a man

In 2005, Days of Our Lives introduced a storyline where Sami cross-dressed as Stan to prove her innocence to Lucas.
While disguised as a man, she tormented many of her enemies in Salem. She even went to war in Iraq under the alias Stan to rescue Philip.
5) Bo Brady’s storyline

Bo Brady’s long absence from Days of Our Lives disappointed many fans, as he was one of the show’s most beloved characters. His send-offs also felt lackluster compared to the soap’s usual dramatic fare.
When he took Caroline to a medical facility for Alzheimer’s treatment, he never returned to Salem—only Caroline did. Later, when Bo and Hope were finally reunited, it was revealed that he had a brain tumor, which ultimately led to his death.
4) Dr. Rolf’s magic serum
One of the most frustrating Days of Our Lives plot twists involved bringing multiple characters back from the dead, diminishing the emotional weight of their deaths.
Dr. Rolf’s magic serum was first used to resurrect Will Horton, but it was later used to bring back numerous other characters. This made death in the series feel insignificant.
3) Marlena’s demonic possessions

Marlena’s first possession in Days of Our Lives (1994) was a fan favorite, with viewers enjoying the drama and suspense.
However, her second possession in 2021 was not well received. It felt like an unnecessary revisitation of an old, successful storyline that didn’t need to be repeated.
2) John Black’s identity

John Black’s identity has frequently changed in Days of Our Lives in an effort to heighten the drama.
He was introduced as John Black, then revealed to be Roman Brady, only for that to be debunked and rebranded back to John Black. Over the years, he has also been identified as Ryan Brady, Forrest Alamain, and more, making his character history incredibly convoluted.
1) The Melaswen Island
The island where the supposed victims of the Salem Stalker were secretly kept alive was revealed to be Melaswen Island.
It was ultimately disclosed that Marlena had been brainwashed by Andre DiMera, who was posing as Tony DiMera, and forced to commit the supposed murders. This storyline disappointed many fans, as it rendered the deaths of numerous characters meaningless.
