The Bold and the Beautiful's decision to go in a completely different direction in Hope's story has resulted in a new pairing that has us completely scratching our heads.

We barely remember Hope and Carter ever having more than a handful of scenes alone together, but now they are flirting and kissing at Forrester Creations, giving us complete whiplash.
When the year began, Hope had agreed to wear Thomas' engagement ring on a chain around her neck, thinking one day she would say yes to his proposal. By March, Hope still wasn't ready to say yes, so Thomas left town with their son and proposed to Paris Buckingham instead.

When Hope learned that Thomas had found someone else, she focused all her attention on married man Finn, causing even more tension between herself and sometime stepsister Steffy. Finn firmly rejected Hope while mortifying her in the process.
The Bold and the Beautiful gives us "Cope"
As a humiliated Hope realized the error of her ways, Carter Walton came along to tell her how wonderful she was. As we watched these two characters flirt, we wondered if B&B didn't know who else to pair them with, so they will now become a couple by default.
Like Hope, Carter was in a surprise and popular pairing with Quinn. However, as soon as they were finally together, Quinn was written off the canvas. That's exactly what happened with Thomas. "Thope" caught on like wildfire as soon as Hope planted a kiss on Thomas outside the Roman Colosseum. Then, he was inexplicably written out of the show, despite Matthew Atkinson's photo still appearing in the credits.
Carter tried romance with Katie, but B&B seemed to give up on making them interesting as soon as they got together. They even broke up off-screen, announcing the split to the audience months later. Now, out of nowhere, Carter and Hope are making googly eyes at each other and acting like teenagers.
When a soap doesn't give a couple any buildup at all, it often doesn't work, and that is what we are witnessing with Carter and Hope. Everything we see between them seems awkward and forced. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for Hope and Carter to be together except for shock value, but this shock value pairing is one that falls flat.
