What is Hope for the Future on The Bold and the Beautiful?

On The Bold and the Beautiful, Hope Logan’s (Annika Noelle) fashion line at Forrester Creations is called Hope for the Future.

Last week on The Bold and the Beautiful was a tense time for Hope as she and others worried that Forrester’s co-CEO Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) would cancel HFTF. It seemed likely that this was the end of the line, as Steffy was upset that Hope had kissed Steffy's husband, Finn (Tanner Novlan), but the line had also been struggling financially for quite some time.

However, Steffy left her personal feelings for her stepsister out of the business decision. Steffy’s concern about the line was its success.

Forrester COO Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) showed the numbers to co-CEOs Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Steffy. They knew that HFTF had been failing for the last few quarters, but Steffy surprised everyone when she decided to give it another chance.

Hope insisted she could turn the numbers around, but this has been an ongoing issue for her and HFTF. Let’s look back at why some people have lost hope in the line’s future over the years.

“Hope for the Future” was ambitious at the start. Hope was a wide-eyed virgin of everything from sex to business when she was gifted a fashion line by her aunt (and equally inexperienced CEO) Katie when Forrester Creations was a subsidiary of Spencer Publications.

Despite Hope's lack of experience in business or modeling and her inability to design, the first Hope for the Future fashion show was a huge success and showed lots of promise.

However, everyone with fashion and business experience, knowledge, and superiority at Forrester Creations wanted Hope to capitalize on the line’s successful launch and sustain it by promoting it in Paris. They set up a press tour and told Hope about the plan, but she didn’t seem to understand its importance over her personal life. “But I just got engaged!” she complained.

Loss of direction

Initially, Hope’s vision for her line was full of…well, hope. In addition to promising to donate profit proceeds, Hope's mission statement and marketing plan promoted integrity and sexual responsibility.

Years after its initial debut, HFTF relaunched with Maya Avant as the face of the line. This time, the hope was to support and acknowledge strong, independent women.

However, Hope has consistently been embroiled in love triangles on The Bold and the Beautiful, even while the line was launched. From swapping back and forth between marriages and relationships with Spencer brothers Wyatt (Darin Brooks) and Liam (Scott Clifton), Hope has also almost continually been in love triangles with her stepsister Steffy. Recently, Hope has even been lusting after Steffy’s husband, Finn (Tanner Novlan) — not exactly model behavior for the face of the Hope for the Future line.

Bad Press

While Hope has been done wrong over the years, there have been plenty of times that her own behavior didn’t align with her brand.

Near the beginning of the line, the public knew that Hope was romantically involved with Liam Spencer. When her stepsister stole her man and married him, Ridge put Marcus Forrester in charge of keeping it out of the press.

At the first Hope for the Future fashion show, rival Steffy had the lights fixed so that Hope went down the runway with “Ho for the Future” behind her.

Lack of long-term designers

Hope has always just been the name and influencer of the line. She has had other family designers keep the line afloat, but despite their talents, for some reason, HFTF is consistently at risk of being canceled.

Experienced lead designers of Hope for the Future have included Thorne Forrester (Winsor Harmon), Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey), Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson), and even patriarch Eric Forrester (John McCook) himself.

Currently on The Bold and the Beautiful, Zende Forrester Dominguez (Delon de Metz) and R.J. Forrester (Joshua Hoffman) have been working on HFTF with Hope.

Would HFTF be better off Hope-less?

So what is the problem? The marketing team sometimes does overtime to prevent the public from discovering scandals in Hope’s life. The lead designers have all been talented and successful in other areas of their careers.

Part of the proceeds from HFTF are supposed to go to charities and nonprofit organizations to spread goodness and give back to the communities from which it profits.

But with all the talent, support, marketing, and good karma the line has had, not to mention being under the umbrella of one of the world’s most successful fashion houses, its longevity always seems hopeless.

Steffy chose to save the line but issued Hope an ultimatum. Steffy warned her stepsister that if she crossed the line with Finn again, HFTF would get cut. Maybe she should stand by her reasons to keep the line but replace Hope as the influencer.

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
