This week on The Bold and the Beautiful, we saw a character we usually only get to see sparingly: Deacon Sharpe. Although in the past, he’s been an integral part of main storylines, the Deacon of late has turned his life around into a businessman and restaurateur, who is ready with sage advice for the patrons who need it. This week, however, Sean Kanan gave us a taste of the Deacon of years ago — except this one operated from a place of honor.

While Sean Kanan has been fairly low-key onscreen in recent months, this week he sprang to life. From compassionately listening as his daughter vented, to calmly promising her that he would be the parent she needed, Kanan showed a side some long-time viewers may not have many memories of. B&B’s resident bad boy had a mature soft side and knew just what to say — and how to say it. Kanan believably made us listen to his words of support in a way that had us hanging on his words. And then there were his actions.

When Kanan showed up at Forrester Creations to defend his daughter to the guy who hurt her, we dropped everything to watch. Not that we’d necessarily picked a side, but we wanted to see Kanan in full action. He didn’t hold back, and we didn’t miss a second of it. Yes, Kanan has a lifetime of training in karate, and is obviously experienced in acting in a fight scene, but there was nothing that he did or how he did it that looked staged or fake. He took a scene that could have easily gone a soapier route and made it the best daytime fight scene we’ve…well, seen in a long time, if not ever.

Then, not missing a beat, Kanan went from looking laser-focused on his target to bringing that deadpan sarcasm that only he can deliver. We were laughing, cheering, and remembering all too well how much Kanan brings to a scene — and a storyline. And we want more of it.

Former ultimate bad boy of both The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless, Deacon Sharpe has had quite the past. Since getting out of prison (the last time), he’s turned his life around by becoming the proud owner of the Il Giardino restaurant, serving the best pizza in town, and being married to reformed psychotic murderer Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown).

Throughout it all, he’s also become close with his daughter, Hope (Annika Noelle), and is always willing to be her sounding board and show his support. He’s also taken to putting his life experiences to good use by giving advice to people who seem to need it, whether they asked or not.

But Deacon’s life has had a recent upheaval when he discovered that his wife’s long-lost granddaughter is the person who killed his two friends. Looks like life’s about to get bumpy for Deacon.
