Why The Bold and the Beautiful's Sheila returned from the dead — again

The Bold and the Beautiful's Sheila Carter has died and come back to life in grand soap opera style for decades. The first time Sheila allegedly died, she was a character on The Young and the Restless. She later turned up in Los Angeles and became a B&B mainstay.

Sheila's most recent "death"

In 2022, the Forresters and Logans believed Sheila had been mauled by a bear, and they celebrated her demise. Of course, Sheila had faked her death and even cut off her own toe to make the bear attack seem authentic.

In 2024, Steffy saw a woman who she thought was Sheila break into her living room. In a panic, she grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed Sheila to death—or so she thought.

B&B made a big deal of Sheila's death, with Deacon and Finn mourning the woman who had caused so much destruction over the years. Kimberlin Brown even did an exit interview in February, but by April, Sheila was revealed to be alive. This time, she hadn't faked her own death but had instead been kidnapped and chained to a bed in a warehouse by her look-alike, Sugar. It turned out that Sugar was the woman Steffy had killed.

The Bold and the Beautiful brings Sheila back

When Sheila was first resurrected this past spring, Brown expressed her gratitude to fans.

"I truly believe that my following and my fans and the people who have loved to hate Sheila all these years are responsible for me coming back," Brown told Deadline.

Now, B&B head writer and executive producer Bradley Bell has explained to Deadline why Sheila had to die—at least for a little while.

"Villains typically need a cooling off period, which just adds to the drama to their return,” Bell said. "And Sheila needs to cool her heels once in a while. Sheila has been a ratings dynamo, and that’s why she’s murdered so many people. She is now happily married and working at a restaurant. Somehow people forgive her because she’s always looked for love and acceptance. That’s something that we can all relate to."

Since Sheila's return, she's settled into married life with Deacon and has gone back to serving pasta and breadsticks at Il Giardino. That doesn't sound very villain-like, but with a character like Sheila Carter, it's often only a matter of time before she wreaks havoc again.
