After Carter's Bold and the Beautiful coup, is all Hope lost?

On The Bold and the Beautiful, Hope (Annika Noelle) seems to be on a collision course with disaster and not just flirting with it. Hope needs to pull herself back from the brink before it really is too late.

The Bold and the Beautiful's Hope for the Future

The current situation is this: Hope was fired, and her Hope for the Future line was canceled. Hope referred to her job and fashion line as her identity and feels that Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) took those things from her. This could push Hope right over the edge because so many times on The Bold and the Beautiful, we have seen good girls gone wrong go even worse.

Why Hope Why?

All year, both Brooke and Deacon have been making excuses for Hope's behavior by saying, ”She's having a rough year.” They also thought that Hope was finally on the upswing, but Brooke and Deacon believed that to be true only because they had absolutely no idea what Hope was actually doing: orchestrating a coup of Forrester Creations. Not only that, but she somehow got Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) to be willing to do it for her … all in the name of love.

Viewers of The Bold and the Beautiful have seen everything from faked deaths to murders, face-altering plastic surgery to lookalike imposters, crazy kidnappings, and evil plots…and, until now, none of these things have been done by Hope.

Yes, some of the bad things others do have been done to Hope, but that doesn’t make her the perpetual victim. She was, generally speaking, always the good girl. Until now, that is. Not only has Hope changed, but she’s also taking Carter with her.

Wherefore art thou Carter

Up until now, Carter had been Ridge's (Thorsten Kaye) trusted friend. He was not only Forrester Creations' lawyer, but they also made him the COO. He’s been a stand-up employee and the trusted advisor he was hired to be. As Steffy reminded Hope, number-cruncher Carter was unhappy with HFTF. He wanted it cut and said it was bad for business.

And then, one little kiss, and suddenly, he's the biggest advocate for HFTF, and Hope is a visionary. Did Carter instantly fall in love? Carter thinks Hope loves him too. Love makes us do dumb things and has for as long as they recorded time. If we need a reminder, Helen of Troy pops to mind.

So what now? Carter got fired for many things, including being a bit of a martyr. Everything was going to be okay: Carter would talk to Ridge, and he would make him see the light and reinstate HFTF and Hope along with it. All would be well, and the world would keep spinning. Except he didn't. Carter confronted Ridge, who terminated his relationship with Carter both professionally and personally.

Rumors have been swirling since Steffy confronted Hope about the coup at the cabin and accused Hope of corrupting Carter. While Hope was professing her love for Carter, some believed she spotted Hope still wearing Thomas’ (Matthew Atkinson) engagement ring around her neck, alluding to Hope not being “all-in” with Carter after all.

However, a screen grab and a magnifying glass later, it seems it might not have been the case. Hope was wearing a round object on a gold chain around her neck. It has a clasp, but there's no stone and no sign it’s THAT ring. Sure, she had a pained look on her face — but when doesn't she? So we're going to counter the thought that Hope was clutching Thomas' ring and willing herself to continue with the Carter-ized coup. That said, it is quite possible that Hope isn't quite as all-in with Carter as she claims — or perhaps he is using her.

He Did What?

Now that Carter dropped the bombshell that he had already filed the LLC papers, Justin (Aaron D Spears) stood in front of Eric (John McCook), Ridge, and Steffy and told them he had exhausted all legal briefs and determined that while it was not ethical, what Carter did was "technically legal." Carter now runs Forrester Creations.

We will just have to wait and see whether Hope and Carter go down the Bonnie and Clyde route or if they're just another Romeo and Juliet — and we all know how both of those play out. Whatever comes next, this is only the beginning. Hope and Carter have dug themselves into a deep hole and are far from finished digging deeper or getting out of it. Double or nothing, anyone?
