The Bold and the Beautiful comings and goings: Edward J. Bell returns to Y&R

Long-time fans of The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless will recognize producer Edward J. Scott. Not only was he a producer on both shows, but he is also married to Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman, Y&R).

Since 2010, Scott has been a supervising producer at The Bold and the Beautiful, but he is returning to where he began. Scott will rejoin The Young and the Restless to be the show's senior producer.

Edward J. Scott has contributed five decades to soaps

Scott began working for Bell-Phillip Television Productions in 1976, starting as an associate producer on The Young and the Restless. He continued to become executive producer until 2007, when he left to join Days of our Lives as a co-executive producer.

Scott and Thomas Scott won an Emmy together this year. They were the recipients of the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in June.

The cast, crew, family, and their children shared their dedication in a video that was shared on The Bold and the Beautiful's YouTube channel to celebrate the couple's award.

The couple attributed their start and successes to meeting show creators Bill Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. Melody Thomas Scott said on the red carpet that without the Bells, she and Edward Scott would not know each other or have the enduring shows they both have had. The Scotts agreed that meeting the Bells changed their lives drastically—for the better.

Additionally, Edward Scott has won six other Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.

Ed Scott is beloved by Y&R and B&B actors

"I believe I have the distinction of being the only actor on either show whose screentest was directed by Ed," said Don Diamont (Bill Spencer, B&B; ex-Brad Carlton, Y&R) in a dedication video. Scott directed Diamont's screentest for The Young and the Restless in 1985. "He's nothing if not passionate," Diamont added.

Lauralee Bell (Christine Blair, Y&R) recalled hearing her father, Y&R creator William Bell, on the phone with Scott. They would review episodes and discuss what to change or improve. Later, as an actress, Bell said Scott could communicate with her and the younger actors in a unique way. She explained Scott could give them notes that would coach their acting effectively. Scott was their boss, she said, but he was "friendly and approachable and yet very much a teacher."
