On The Bold and the Beautiful, Scott Clifton’s character, Liam Spencer, is no stranger to falling or even head injuries. But this most recent was perhaps his most serious — and led to the discovery of an inoperable brain mass. The actor shared how he was told of his character’s crisis.

When viewers saw Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) become blurry-eyed and collapse to the floor, they chalked it up to the stress of the hostile argument he had just had with his father, Bill Spencer (Don Diamont). Alone in his dad’s living room, Liam awoke and stumbled towards the door. Realizing the back of his head was bleeding, he fell again, this time hitting his head on the stone pathway outside.

Thanks to his ex, Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), who found him and rushed him to the hospital, he was given life-saving surgery to stop the bleeding of his cranial hemorrhage. However, follow-up scans showed that Liam had a huge mass on his brain, and expert medical professionals deemed it inoperable. Liam has just found out that he is dying.

In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Scott Clifton reflected on Liam’s storylines. For years, they have revolved mainly around Liam bouncing back and forth between Hope (Annika Noelle) and Steffy. Several months back, he had what he called a “really generous and honest” talk with Bradley Bell, B&B’s head writer and executive producer. From the conversation, he knew that Liam would be on the back burner for a while, understood the reasoning, and agreed with it. Meanwhile, Bell had previewed that Liam would have a front-burner storyline in 2025, and it would be something that was different for him.

Eventually, Clifton saw the script of the argument Liam would have with Bill, and his head injury. “And a few days later, I got a call: Brad asked me to come up to his office,” Clifton shared. Bell filled him in on the next stage of the storyline, and Clifton was excited for the challenges that lay ahead for him as an actor. “I’m really, really excited to tell this story, because I’ve never been entrusted with something this weighty before. And I’m really grateful to Brad for having enough faith in me to pull this off,” Clifton added.
