Chad was on the phone canceling all of his appointments when JJ burst in and asked if he had heard the latest. JJ said that EJ had released Cat, and they needed to find her. “Call off the search party. I’m here,” Cat said as she emerged from behind the curtains.
JJ told Cat that she had some nerve showing up there and that Chad wanted nothing to do with her. Chad stopped JJ’s rant and said that Cat was there because he asked her to be. Chad admitted that he was the one that got EJ to drop the charges.
“Don’t tell me you’re falling for this sob story about Weston,” JJ told Chad. Cat insisted it wasn’t a sob story and told JJ how Weston had her mother. “My niece and nephew were going to be orphans!” JJ fumed. Cat insisted she had no idea that Mark was going to try to kill Chad, but JJ said they had no reason to believe her. “What reason do I have to lie anymore?” Cat asked. She said she was horrified but figured Mark was desperate.
“You were willing to hurt someone in my family just to save someone in yours,” JJ told her. He said she was no better than Clyde. JJ told Cat how devastated his mom was when she lost Abigail and that she turned to opioids. JJ was enraged that his parents and Chad had to relive the nightmare of losing Abigail all over again. Cat said she did think about his family a lot but didn’t think she had a choice.

Chad tried to explain that he needed Cat safe, but JJ didn’t want to hear it. He thought that Cat was just playing Chad again. JJ said that Cat probably gave Clyde the idea of trading her for Abigail’s body. Chad said that JJ had every right to be upset, but he had to trust that Chad knew what he was doing. Chad snapped that he despised Cat but wasn’t handing her over to Clyde to be killed, either. “Well, then, what, you’re going to use her as bait?” JJ asked. “Exactly,” Chad said.
Chad said he was using Cat to get Clyde out in the open, and Cat said she was okay with it after everything she did. Chad told JJ that Julie knew the truth but that he couldn’t tell anyone what was going on. “I’m sorry, but I can’t do that,” JJ said.
JJ said that he would chalk it up to everything Chad had been through but he wasn’t thinking straight. “I can’t even stay in the same room as this lying, disgusting bitch,” JJ said before storming out.
Tate was surprised to see Sophia at his door. She wondered if he was expecting someone else. Sophia was worried that Tate was avoiding her because she had seen Holly, who told her that she wanted Tate back. Tate said that Holly knew he didn’t want to get back together with her. Tate admitted to telling Holly that he and Sophia had been intimate. He said he was tired of all of the secrets and had told her the truth.
Tate added that he wouldn’t have been intimate with Sophia only to go back to Holly. Sophia wondered if that meant that he was with her out of obligation. She told Tate that if he still had feelings for Holly, then she didn’t want to be with him, but he said that he only wanted Sophia. Tate kissed her and asked if that showed her that he only wanted to be with her.
Sophia said that she had gotten into her head. She told Tate that she really missed him and wanted to go to his room so she could show him how much she missed him. They went to bed and began to make love, but Tate messed up and accidentally called her Holly.
In the square, Holly sat down with Aaron. He told her that Mark had been arrested for trying to kill Chad and that he and Felicity didn’t know what they would do without him. Holly told Aaron that she had seen Mark in Paris but that she didn’t know why he was there.
Holly asked Aaron about Fake Abigail. She didn’t understand the connection between her and Mark and why he would work with her. Aaron admitted that Cat was his sister and that she had plastic surgery after their parents’ accident. Holly told Aaron how she helped expose Cat in Paris for pretending to be Abigail. Holly didn’t understand why his sister and brother did what they did. Aaron said that Cat and Mark were trying to save their mom. “I thought your mom was dead,” Holly said. “So did I,” Aaron agreed.
Aaron said his mom survived the accident but was being held hostage by Weston. They lamented that Weston killed Abigail, and Aaron shared that Clyde threatened to kill his mom as well. Aaron feared that this mom was dead already.
Aaron admitted that Tate and Sophia getting together was his fault by telling Tate to go for it. “He went for it, alright. He and Sophia slept together,” Holly said. Aaron was shocked and asked Holly not to hate him. Holly told him she wasn’t upset with him but hurt that Tate chose Sophia over her.
At the Pub, Jada told Rafe that taking his position as Commissioner wasn’t what she wanted. Rafe said he knew that and that he should consider himself lucky that Paulina still wanted him as a detective. Rafe congratulated Jada and gave her the badge. Jada resisted, but Rafe told her that she was a great cop and that he was glad that Paulina knew it, too.
Jada had a call and had to go take care of something for work. Rafe understood as he used to leave to do work as well. They agreed to meet at home. After Jada left, Roman joined Rafe and they discussed his demotion.
Roman chatted with Rafe about the situation and said he knew what it was like to be in the role and out of it. He advised that Rafe needed to be honest about it with himself and not suppress his feelings. “Ok, you got me. I am pretty damn angry about this whole thing,” Rafe admitted. He said he didn’t have a problem taking orders from a woman that he loved. It was more about the demotion and feeling disrespected.
Rafe said that losing his job sucked, but he had to accept it. “Or, get an attorney. Sue the city,” Roman suggested. Roman thought that Paulina was wrong. Rafe sustained injuries in the line of duty, and the city was supposed to hold his position until he recovered. Rafe didn’t want to make waves for Jada, especially since they just got engaged. Roman wondered how happy they could be if he was harboring secret resentment about her having a job that was rightfully Rafe’s.
Jada came home and found Gabi making a celebratory dinner for Rafe’s return to his position as Commissioner. She told her the change in plans, and she was upset for him. Gabi said that Rafe may have told Jada that he was okay with it, but he definitely would not be.
Jada told Gabi that she and Rafe were always honest with everything. Gabi said that Rafe was covering up on how he really felt. She said her brother wanted his job back, and his pride would be wounded. Gabi questioned if Jada wanted Rafe’s job. “I think a part of you is thrilled to be Salem’s first female Black commissioner,” Gabi told Jada.
Jada thought Gabi was making it sound like she was happy Rafe lost his job. Gabi clarified that her job often put her at odds with Stefan. She told Jada she could confide in her. Jada admitted that she would have enjoyed her promotion if it hadn’t been for Rafe getting demoted. “Because I enjoy being in charge,” she added. “Of course you do,” Gabi agreed. Gabi promised not to say anything to Rafe but encouraged Jada to come clean with Rafe and hoped he would, too.
Rafe came home, and Jada told him that Gabi made him a celebratory meal. Jada told Rafe that Gabi got her to address her feelings and shared that she was excited about her promotion. She said she loved him and didn’t want her job to come between them. Rafe said he felt the same way. “And that’s why I’m quitting the force,” he said.
