On The Bold and the Beautiful, another week has gone by, and crikey! Do we have some things to discuss? We sure do.

Hey, B&B fans, who thought the week would have given us a Friday like that? Do you know what that feels like? It feels like momentum. It feels like an old storyline is gaining traction again and headed somewhere like a conclusion or at least to a place more exciting than the direction it seemed headed, which was nowhere fast. Oh, and I have a good word for a returning character next week, and they are sure to add some spice to the storylines. The Bold and the Beautiful just turned a corner, soap fans!

I could tell you what Bill’s rules are for Luna to stay at his house. Or I could tell you Finn’s inner struggle about why he’s worried about telling Steffy that Luna’s his kid. But then I’d sound like I was recapping Monday through Thursday on repeat, so let’s just jump ahead to Friday, when things got heated.

Operation Car-terrr Walton

It would appear that having Steffy tell Daphne to take “Operation Carter Walton” in a different direction was a great idea. The seduction game was awful to watch, and Daphne (with some unsolicited backup from Brooke) turned Carter’s heart of stone to mush with some simple, coherent words and only one whiff of a fragrance du jour. And just like that, we actually saw some remorse and witnessed a version of Carter with a substantial internal conflict going on. On the one hand, he still feels that he and Hope have accomplished something good and led the way for more success, but on the other (and heavier) hand, he knows that it is not his company, and he got it through trickery. Carter finally held the thought that he had lost his best friend and hurt people he considered family. And to that end, we saw more progress in one episode than Steffy or Daphne could have possibly wished for — if they knew it was even happening.

It's launch day, baby

Friday was a momentous day for Forrester Creations on The Bold and the Beautiful, or it should have been. The much-anticipated jewelry line was dropping, and with it was the beginning of Carter's — yes, I have to say it, sorry — global luxury brand vision becoming a reality. It got a little antsy in the design office with Hope and Steffy back at it, but this time, Steffy’s observations were correct. Steffy told Hope that Brooke was less than enthused about the coup after all. With her record firmly stuck, Hope clung to her theory that she and Carter were the best things Forrester had seen since sliced bread, except the power duo of Carter and Brooke, who apparently were going to take the company to new heights, and Hope was going to take the credit. It got a little blurry as we followed Hope’s logic, but she actually told Steffy to consider it a Valentine’s Day gift that they had taken her family’s company…and was able to walk out unscathed.

The CEO’s office was heaving, the excitement almost palpable. Everyone was hyped and looking forward to it getting started. Oh, wait…sorry, that was my living room for the Super Bowl. The tension was so thick in the CEO’s office that you could cut it with a soup spoon and dish it out, and the only one hyped was Hope. She looked like the excited kid in class who had no idea the announcement would be more homework. Meanwhile, the only key players left at the company, Katie, Electra, Brooke, Will, Zende, Hope, and Carter, got ready for the launch.

And by ‘get ready,’ I mean they didn’t do much while two women with clipboards seemed to be the only ones working. At some point, Carter thought he would have a good Valentine's Day, and had asked Electra to make a glass heart on a necklace for him to give to Hope.

Just in case Carter forgot how miserable he should be, Brooke reminded him how much they both missed the same guy on Valentine’s Day. Hope tried to get that party started but kept falling flat. Zende even spoke up, saying the new line would be a success; after all, Eric had signed off on it, and it had the family name. Hope turned up the volume on her record player for her favorite song, “Welcome to the Carter Walton era of Forrester Creations.” I think she misspoke. Did she say “era?” Or “error.”

Carter shows real remorse

The new line dropped, as did Carter's face. The sales came in fast, and so did Carter's pulse. You could see that both Daphne and Brooke had made an impact on the guy’s conscience. Hope seemed oblivious that being full of glee was going over like a lead balloon. Unable to read the room, Hope suggested champagne and was met with crickets. The final stroke was Charlie coming into the room with all the flowers from the international office to say congratulations. Charlie struggled under the weight of the vase and quipped that it was as awkward as the vibe in the room. Bless you, Charlie.

Hope cleared the room like a fart, and once alone with the man of the hour, she asked him what his problem was. Did we hear her correctly? Oh, but we did. She said, “We…I mean, you…had a vision for Forrester Creations, and it's happening.” Was she taking credit or distancing herself from the problem? I’m not sure even she knew at that moment. All Carter knew was that he was full of regret that all of it was happening without Eric, Steffy, and Ridge.

This was one of the first real moments The Bold and the Beautiful has given us lately. Carter suggested the successful launch could be their chance to go out on top. Of course, Hope started to freak out, but he actually told her that what they had done was underhanded and that the Forresters might be happy if they showed them the books and apologized. Hope went into crisis lockdown mode and cried, not wanting to apologize after all the humiliation Steffy and Ridge had put her through.

I know some are going to come at me for this, but Hope’s damsel-in-distress routine doesn't wash with me. And finally, it looks like it doesn't wash with Carter as much, either. Hope goes for the last ditch effort to regain control of a conversation that seems to be spiraling out of her control. She told him what he did was heroic but Carter, fully on the common sense train now, said that there was nothing heroic about trickery. Carter? Dat New You??

The Stapler of Symbolism

Carter decides it’s time for some visuals. He struts to the desk, dramatically pulls out everyone’s favorite fastener, and barks, “This is ERIC’s stapler!!! His STAPLER! His. Stapler. Not mine! His.” Oh my god. The stapler has once again been pulled out to do what it does best: make a profound impact at just the right moment.

Oh, but Carter didn’t end there. It was Eric’s desk. Eric’s office. It was Eric’s chair, Hope, his CHAIR. And you know what all those things were not? Carter’s. He couldn’t take it anymore, and he couldn’t live with himself. Things had to change, amirite, Hope? But Hope said nah. Not only was she not entertaining any life that included going back to how things were, she didn’t want his Valentine’s Day gift, either.

Hope yelled, pouted, cried, and vented, then stormed out like she still thought she owned the place. But Carter didn’t chase after her. Instead, he sobbed and looked at a picture of Eric on the desk. Then he pounded his fists into Eric’s desk. Of course, that broke the necklace, cutting his hand, and somehow distributed an even coating of blood over every shard of glass in his palm.

Like he wasn’t having a bad enough day already, he heard a voice: “Heavy is the head that wears the crown, Carter.” Carter’s tears turned to a defiant glare when he saw Ridge in the doorway. For a brief second, I thought here is the moment that Carter will do the right thing. But it’s Friday, and he’s got the weekend to think about it.

Oh, it's broken? Let me Remy that for you

I promised a teaser, and here it comes: The Bold and the Beautiful delivers, next week at the Spencer mansion, Luna comes into the living room and says to a stranger in the room who’s standing by the fireplace — where the photos of Will sit pride of place. Luna asks this person, “Are you here to fix the AC?” Remy turns around, looks at Luna, and says, “Do I know you?” We knew it was too soon for Remy to be out of the picture after the Electra debacle, so he and Luna would indeed be quite the combo. Whatever that turns out to be, it spells trouble for poor Will and everyone else on The Bold and the Beautiful. And here we thought her teaming up with Grandma Sheila was the obvious next step.

Wow, you made it all the way to the end? You deserve a prize!... Just kidding, leave a comment instead.
