B&B is keeping mum about what brings Deacon back to town, but the show did tease that his arrival will be quite the storm -- and anyone whos familiar with the blast-from-the-past character knows that he always comes with lots and lots of drama.
Originally on the show from 2000 to 2005 and again from 2014 to 2017, Deacon infamously romanced both Bridget Forrester (Ashley Jones) and her mother, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), at the same time -- which eventually led to the birth of Deacon and Brooke's daughter, Hope. He also cheated on Macy Alexander (Bobbie Eakes) with Jackie Marone (Lesley-Anne Down), which caused an infuriated Nick (Jack Wagner) to lace Deacon's drinks with alcohol, sending the then-sober alcoholic off the wagon and out of town.
Deacon eventually landed on The Young and the Restless, where he stirred up lots of trouble for several Genoa City characters from 2009 to 2012 -- including Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), a fellow alcoholic with whom he had a brief marriage.
Deacon returned to B&B in 2014 when he learned that Quinn Fuller's (Rena Sofer) son, Wyatt (Darin Brooks), was in love with Hope. Things got messy very quickly when Deacon fell in love with Quinn and married her -- despite a few setbacks, like Quinn causing Hope to miscarry and Brooke crashing the wedding. Their union was short-lived, and Deacon disappeared from the canvas, with Quinn telling everyone they had split up and he had moved to Europe. Deacon made his way back to L.A., however, and was shocked to discover that Quinn was holding an amnesiac Liam (Scott Clifton) captive. Deacon tried to help Liam, but Quinn intervened and shoved her ex over a cliff and into the ocean. Though thought to be dead, Deacon actually survived the fall, and when a mystery someone tried shooting Quinn on several occasions in 2017, it was revealed that Deacon was the culprit. He was sent to prison for his crimes and hasn't been heard from... until now!
According to B&B's executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, who gave fall preview teasers to Soap Opera Digest, Deacon's arrival will bring a lot of challenges to Hope and Liam's marriage and family. "They have been happy since Liam has been freed from jail but there is more drama around the corner," Bell previewed.
Kanan began working as an actor in the 1980s, landing roles in shows like Werewolf, Baby Boom, The Outsiders, and Step by Step. His first soap role was General Hospital's A.J. Quartermaine, which he played from 1993 to 1997 and again from 2012 to 2014.
