Patrick Mulcahey departs the writing team of The Bold and the Beautiful

Patrick Mulcahey, a veteran daytime writer who has won Emmy gold four times as part of the writing team of The Bold and the Beautiful, is stepping away from the CBS soap.

Veteran daytime writer Patrick Mulcahey has stepped down from the writing team of The Bold and the Beautiful.

Mulcahey has served as script writer for B&B since 2005 and as story consultant for the past decade. During his time with the world's most-watched soap opera, Mulcahey has picked up four Daytime Emmy wins as part of the B&B writing team.

Despite online rumors to the contrary, Mulcahey is not going quietly into the night, er, retirement. Mulcahey told Daytime Confidential that he is definitely not retiring.

"I've just put in fifteen satisfying years at The Bold and the Beautiful and am taking a little break before looking for my next job," he told the site in a statement. "If I'm very lucky, it'll be as good to me and for me as B&B was."

Prior to joining B&B, Mulcahey was associate head writer, breakdown writer, and script writer at General Hospital. He also served as script writer on Guiding Light in 1982 and from 1992 to 1994, and as co-head writer in 1994. Before that, Mulcahey was a script writer at Santa Barbara from 1984 to 1990. He began his storied career in daytime in 1980 when he worked as a script writer for the Another World spinoff, Texas.

Mulcahey's last B&B episode will air on December 5.
