Katie's emotional, near-death story on B&B helps raise awareness about the dangers of kidney disease

The Bold and the Beautiful has teamed with the National Kidney Foundation for Katie Logan's (Heather Tom) dramatic storyline in an effort to help raise awareness of kidney disease.

Following its long tradition of bringing compelling, impactful social issue storylines straight into viewers' living rooms, The Bold and the Beautiful has teamed with the National Kidney Foundation as it continues to tell the emotional story of Katie Logan (Heather Tom), who is currently on the verge of death due to kidney disease.

The dramatic and important storyline, set to get into full swing on Tuesday, October 8, will have Katie finding herself in the hospital with irreversible kidney failure. Under the care of surgeon and nephrology specialist Dr. Davis (Tisha Campbell), Katie and her husband, Bill (Don Diamont), learn that her options are dialysis or finding a donor for life-saving surgery. However, when Katie's fragile condition worsens, they must find a compatible kidney donor as soon as possible.

Surrounded by Bill; her sisters, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Donna (Jennifer Gareis); and her son, Will (Finnegan George), Katie fears not being able to see her son grow up. With the clock ticking, each of Katie's family members is tested as a potential donor, and they anxiously wait to hear if there's a viable match.

Following the emotional episode, a CBS Cares public service announcement (PSA) from CBS and the National Kidney Foundation, featuring Tom, will run. An additional PSA featuring series star Katrina Bowden (Florence "Flo" Fulton) will also be available online at www.CBSCares.com.

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) is the largest, most comprehensive, patient-centric organization dedicated to the awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease in the U.S. Currently, there are 37 million Americans with chronic kidney disease. NKF's THE BIG ASK: THE BIG GIVE platform is designed to increase kidney transplantation and living donation, and it includes in-person training, direct patient and caregiver support, and peer mentoring. As B&B viewers may recall, the CBS soap opera told a similar social issue story in 2017 in which R.J. (Anthony Turpel) was injured while Coco (Courtney Grosbeck) was texting while driving. In conjunction with the emotional storyline, the soap aired a PSA featuring Katherine Kelly Lang about the dangers of distracted driving.
