The Bold and the Beautiful will introduce its first gay couple later this spring. Soap vet Crystal Chappell has been hired to play Danielle, one of Caroline Spencer's two moms. Chappell has appeared on Days of our Lives, Guiding Light, and One Life to Live.
When The Bold and the Beautiful announced in February that Caroline Spencer would be escorted to Los Angeles by her mother, Karen, the show coyly avoided discussing the identity of Caroline's father. Now, the show is going to face the topic of Caroline's parents head-on.
Daytime Emmy winner Crystal Chappell is joining the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful in the role of Danielle -- Caroline's other mother. Danielle and Karen are partners.
"So excited to be at B&B! Cool peeps," Chappell exclaimed on Twitter. "I'm so proud to be a part of such a cool show."

Caroline knows that she has two moms, but none of the other characters on the B&B canvas know the truth. This will mark the first time that The Bold and the Beautiful has featured a main storyline that has involved a gay or lesbian character. It is not, however, the first time that Chappell has played a lesbian.
Chappell earned critical acclaim for her work as Olivia Spencer on Guiding Light. Towards the end of Guiding Light's storied run, Chappell's alter ego became romantically involved with another woman, Natalia Rivera, played by Jessica Leccia. Chappell and Leccia reunited as on-screen lovers in Venice, an Emmy-winning web series created by Chappell.
Prior to signing with B&B, Chappell reprised her role as Carly Manning on Days of our Lives. Chappell appeared on One Life to Live in the 1990s as Maggie Carpenter.
Chappell will make her B&B debut on May 17.
