B&B crew member sues over hair-raising performance review

Carlos Pelz, the head hairstylist for The Bold and the Beautiful, has filed a lawsuit against the show, claiming that an internal memo documenting his job performance was libelous and caused him emotional distress.

For the second time in as many months, The Bold and the Beautiful finds itself facing a lawsuit. In the latest legal woes for the CBS soap, the show's principal hairstylist alleges that a performance review of his work resulted in libelous claims against him.

In a complaint filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court, Carlos Pelz alleges that Bell-Phillip Television Productions and B&B's senior supervisor, Ron Weaver, who Pelz named specifically in his lawsuit, circulated a memo in March 2010 that claimed he was "lazy, incompetent, and uncaring" and produced poor quality work. As a result of that review, it was recommended that Pelz be relieved of his duties as the head of the hairstyling team.

In his defense, Pelz noted that he has received two consecutive Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling. Pelz claims that the job performance review caused him to suffer emotional distress, anxiety, embarassment, shame, and humilation.

Pelz is seeking unspecified damages.

The Bold and the Beautiful has not commented on the lawsuit.

Last month, Robert John Burck, who is known as the Naked Cowboy, filed a trademark infringment lawsuit against B&B. Burck alleges that B&B tried to make money off of his likeness by having one of its contract players appear on-screen in underwear, boots, a cowboy hat, and a well-positioned guitar.
