One of the most highly anticipated arcs within the final saga of mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga series has been the ongoing and incredibly exciting Elbaph Arc. One of the most important and foundational characters in the arc is none other than Loki, the Accursed Prince of Elbaph, who killed his father and the nation’s last ruler, King Harald.

However, this isn’t how fans are first introduced to the character. Loki is first mentioned during the Whole Cake Island Arc as a part of Big Mom’s plan to mend fences with Elbaph’s Giants following her actions as a child. She intended to do so by arranging his marriage to her daughter Charlotte Lola, whom Loki was in love with.

Unfortunately for her, Lola did not want to marry Loki, deciding to run away and abandon her family instead. After this brief introduction, fans don’t hear about Loki until the Elbaph Arc, where he’s relatively quickly introduced as the “Shame of Elbaph.” This is obviously very different from the impression fans got, given his alleged love for Lola.

One Piece’s Elbaph Arc also gives fans their first look at Loki, who was silhouetted when first mentioned. He’s shown to be a massively tall giant with ancient giant blood, hence his stature and the large horns protruding from his forehead. He wears traditional Viking-inspired Elbaph garb and has several tattoos. Official colorings show him to have purple hair.

As of this article’s writing, his role in the story is somewhat difficult to explain and predict. While initially thought to be the Elbaph Arc’s antagonist, evidence to the contrary has since appeared. While he’s far from a friendly force as of the latest chapter, it’s difficult to say for sure whether he’ll be the arc’s antagonist or help protagonist Monkey D. Luffy in protecting Elbaph.

Loki’s powers and abilities in One Piece

Based on what little fans have seen of Loki in action, his preferred weapon seems to be a large warhammer called Ragnir, which can apparently control lightning. The one time Loki used it so far, a massive bolt of lightning struck the part of the Treasure Tree Adam, which he hit with Ragnir. As of this article’s writing, it’s unknown how Ragnir has this ability.

More generally speaking, Loki is said to be especially strong even among giants. It’s said the entirety of Elbaph’s strongest warriors had to band together in order to even attempt to restrain and imprison him. Even still, it’s said that Shanks was the one to actually capture him, showing how strong Loki truly is. He also has a “special” World Government bounty of 2.6 billion Beri.

While One Piece has yet to show Loki fighting in any significant or especially meaningful capacity, his endurance at least appears to be incredible. His surviving imprisonment in Elbaph’s Underworld itself shows this, as does his being able to live despite the injuries the Holy Knights gave him. His reaction speed has also been shown to be remarkably fast even when restrained.

Loki has also been confirmed to have eaten the “legendary” Devil Fruit, which was passed down in Elbaph’s royal family. It’s also said that his desire to possess this fruit is what drove him to murder his father, further suggesting it to be very powerful. Unfortunately, the exact name, type, and powers of Loki’s Devil Fruit are still unknown as of this article’s writing.

In summation

One Piece’s Prince Loki is a character who plays a significant role in the Elbaph Arc. He’s responsible for the death of King Harald, his father, which has left Elbaph without a true ruler for many years. Even given how little fans have seen of his abilities so far, it’s clear that he’s also one of the strongest and most menacing characters in the entire series.
