As Toei Animation's One Piece television anime returns, Admiral Kizaru stands out as the most important characters in mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s epic saga of One Piece. A Marine Admiral, Kizaru is not only at the heart of many of the anime's most significant events, but is also undoubtedly one of its strongest characters.

This naturally leads many fans to ask exactly what Admiral Kizaru’s Devil Fruit is, given that these abilities make up the anime's core power system. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions regarding the anime.

What is Admiral Kizaru's Devil Fruit? Details explored

Kizaru's Devil Fruit is the Logia-type Glint-Glint Fruit, also known as the Pika Pika no Mi in Japanese. The Fruit allows its user to create, control, and transform into light at will, effectively making them a Light Human.

One of the most prominent powers granted by the Fruit is Kizaru's capacity to move at the speed of light the moment he becomes light itself. This applies not only to general travel, but also to his attacks, drastically increasing his strength. While it takes some time to get up to the actual speed of light, it is an incredibly effective technique to use when executed properly.

Kizaru’s Fruit also allows him to launch light-energy beam-style attacks, which can cause massive explosions. This was heavily showcased during One Piece’s Sabaody Archipelago Arc, which showed these beams to have a piercing effect when fired from the fingertips. Fingertips can also be used to emit sudden, large bursts of light to stun and blind opponents.

Kizaru’s Devil Fruit has been extensively researched by Dr. Vegapunk, who recreated these laser blasts for use in the Pacifista units, including Bartholomew Kuma himself. The Seraphim units, considered spiritual successors to the Pacifista units, also possess this technology. Dr. Vegapunk's labs also use this technology, as do Queen and Franky by virtue of their respective relationships with him.

Kizaru’s major Devil Fruit attacks in One Piece

Generally speaking, Kizaru cycles through four major attacks (with slight variations at times) in the series, all named after stories found in Japanese mythology. Three of the four are named after the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan: Yata no Kagami, Ama no Murakumo, and Yakasani no Magatama.

1) Yata no Kagami

Kizaru’s Yata no Kagami attack sees him generate light from his hands and reflect it off surfaces to create a path. He then transforms into light and uses this pathway to travel to his desired location or even to catch up with the opponent and attack them. However, the efficiency of the technique can be hindered if the beam is cut off before the user can fully become light and disappear.

2) Ama no Murakumo

Kizaru’s next technique, based on these Sacred Treasures, is the Ama no Murakumo. He creates a long, sharp, and durable sword out of solidified light, which can be wielded as a traditional sword too, using it to parry and deflect the opponent's moves.

3) Yasakani no Magatama

Kizaru’s final Sacred Treasure-inspired technique is the Yasakani no Magatama. To use this technique, he first crosses his arms and launches a massive wave of light particles from his hands. These explode on impact and cause enormous damage to their targets. He can adjust the spread with ease and also use this technique to create solidified light clones of himself during battle.

4) Amaterasu

Kizaru’s attack listed last in One Piece is Amaterasu. Its name is confirmed through supplemental canon material. Kizaru first points his index and middle fingers at his target in a peace sign, then emits a powerful flash of light. This can be used to blind or stun opponents in the vicinity, allowing him to escape or deliver blows without any fear of a counterattack.

In summary

Admiral Kizaru’s Devil Fruit in One Piece, the Logia-type Glint-Glint Fruit, allows Kizaru to create, control, and physically become light. This allows him to move at the speed of light and increase the power of his techniques and the attacks they are used in. However, there are also several creative uses of the Fruit’s powers which result in deadly attacks and allow for inventive strategies.
