The world of One Piece is filled with mysteries that only draw more intrigue even after thousands of chapters. Among these, the Void Century is one of the most compelling unsolved narratives, greatly contributing to the current timeline. Nevertheless, Oda excels at dropping subtle hints over the course of the story, encouraging fans to remain engaged and piece together the puzzle themselves.

As a result, while complete truths remain hidden, several elements are connected to this missing century-long period. A major one is Devil Fruits, the primary power system in One Piece.

Devil Fruits have been present ever since the beginning of the story and allow users to display wondrous powers. However, despite their continued presence, very little is known about them. There are several theories on how they were artificially manufactured, and others refer to them as gifts from the Moon People.

Based on the recently revealed Harley Texts in the One Piece manga, the most popular hypothesis is that Devil Fruits were developed in the Void Century by the Forest God using magic. Their creation incurred the wrath of the Sea God, due to which Devil Fruit users are unable to swim.

Given the connection to gods and deities connected to the three worlds, it is fitting that the biggest Devil Fruit Oda confirmed to have existed during the Void Century is the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.

While this is the protagonist Luffy’s current Devil Fruit, it was famously used by Joy Boy during the Void Century. Wielding the powers of the Sun God Nika, which allows one to manipulate reality itself, Joy Boy led the legendary Great Kingdom during this period. Unfortunately, his adventures were halted due to the alliance of 20 kingdoms, now known as the World Government.

Following the defeat of the Great Kingdom and Joy Boy, the World Government destroyed every piece of information related to the Void Century. Once the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika reappeared, they named it the Gomu Gomu no Mi. This eventually made its way to Luffy, and its true form was unveiled in One Piece's Wano Arc. Hence, through just one Devil Fruit, Oda has set up years of lore while connecting two central figures from separate time periods.

This is not the only Devil Fruit confirmed to have existed during the Void Century. According to the Revolutionary Army, the enigmatic Imu lived during the Void Century. They were responsible for Joy Boy’s downfall and hold an intense hatred towards him. Given that the Void Century was 900 years in the past, however, it would be impossible for Imu to live so long without a Devil Fruit's powers.

Hence, the most probable answer is that Imu underwent the Immortality Operation of the Ope Ope no Mi. While the fruit is owned by Law, Doflamingo expressed that it has existed since ancient times. It is also capable of making a person immortal, though it will come at the cost of the user’s life.

Finally, the last known Devil Fruit from the Void Century is the Toki Toki no Mi. This fruit was used by Kozuki Toki, who was originally born 830 years ago during the heart of the Void Century. It allowed her to jump forward in time, an ability she frequently used to escape danger. Her last use of it, however, was to protect Momonosuke and her retainers from Kaido’s scheme in Wano. This act eventually lets Luffy ally with them, which sets off the chain of events that leads to the protagonist’s awakening.

Therefore, by not outrightly stating the existence of Devil Fruits during the Void Century but instead cleverly incorporating them into both history and the current timeline, Oda links several key elements of the narrative. This approach provides answers to fans, raises new questions, and heightens the stakes.

Devil Fruits Rumored to Have Existed During the Void Century in One Piece

Oda’s subtle hints let One Piece viewers get definite answers sometimes, but also lead to a plethora of theories. While a few may be outlandish, there are others with strong foundations. Among these, there are convincing arguments made for potential Devil Fruits that existed during the Void Century.

The first is a mysterious Devil Fruit used by Nefertari D. Lili to spread the Poneglyphs across the world. It is yet to be revealed what ability she used, but most believe it to be the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, the fruit currently held by Kuma. This fruit can transport targets to several islands in an instant, and it would remain consistent with Lili’s miraculous feat. Given Imu’s hatred for Lili and the fact that the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi was in the World Government’s possession before Kuma ate it, the theory also has strong backing.

Additionally, mythical fruits such as Kaido’s Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu are believed to have originated in the Void Century. Since these fruits let users turn into creatures such as dragons, rare sights in the current story, their creation was likely during the mysterious Void Century.

Oda has already revealed many Void Century Devil Fruits, and they are deeply woven into One Piece's plot. These revelations have helped heighten the intrigue, with fans hoping to learn more about the missing century as well as the secrecy surrounding Devil Fruits.
