Having redefined the superhero genre in anime, My Hero Academia presents an intricate view into a society of heroes and villains. With over a hundred episodes, the series features thrilling battles filled with high stakes and intense emotions. This culminated in the Final War Arc, where every hero fought the main antagonists for the sake of protecting the world.
Among the many jaw-dropping moments in this war, few shocked viewers as much as Bakugo’s alleged death. Fans did not believe the hero would get lucky twice, as he had survived a close call during the Paranormal Liberation War as well. However, thanks to the sacrifice of the Ninja Hero: Edgeshot, Bakugo did come back to life in My Hero Academia.
The series of events began when the protagonist Deku was transported away from the battlefield through a Warp Gate. Determined to hold the fort while he made his way back, Bakugo proactively attacked Tomura with explosive moves such as Howitzer Impact: Cluster.

This left little impact as Tomura’s body had evolved to a near-perfect state. Despite his powerlessness and having his arm crushed, Bakugo showcased his unwavering determination, driven by both All Might's and Deku’s spirit.
While attempting to deal a powerful attack on Tomura, the antagonist turned the tide and landed a fatal blow to Bakugo’s heart. This seemingly “killed” him, with Best Jeanist declaring that Bakugo had no pulse and his heart had been torn to shreds. Given the tone of finality and the flashback sequences leading up to this scene, fans feared that this was the tragic outcome of a brutal war. However, Horikoshi had a bigger purpose for Bakugo.
Right when despair began setting in among the characters, Edgeshot stepped in and vowed to save the life of the young hero. He used his Ultimate Move: Zenith to transform his body into thread-like fibers, personally entering Bakugo’s heart and repairing his organs. Annoyed, Tomura moved to kill Bakugo decisively but was stopped by the returning Deku.
In the meantime, Edgeshot had worn himself thin and nearly died while trying to revive Bakugo. Thankfully, due to a stroke of luck, he discovered sweat particles connected to Bakugo’s Quirk, which helped resuscitate his heart and lungs.
The Impact of Bakugo's Revival in My Hero Academia
Bakugo coming back to life set up the impactful and exciting scene where All Might lay at the edge of death against All For One. Believing Sir Nighteye’s prediction to have come true, he was ready to accept his fate when the recently revived Bakugo rushed to the battle and saved his mentor.

With Edgeshot’s immense contribution that made his body tiny and Bakugo’s own heroic attitude, the My Hero Academia deuteragonist was back on his feet.
He refused to abide by his fate and also helped All Might defy Sir Nighteye’s prophecy. Bakugo continued to have some of the most impressive contributions in the Final War Arc. He killed All For One and later beat Kurogiri, allowing Deku to defeat Tomura. Hence, after coming back to life, he played a pivotal role in overcoming both main antagonists, a feat no other hero had accomplished.
Bakugo’s revival walked a fine line between satisfying fan desire and maintaining the narrative stakes. However, given the dire situation and the necessity of his return, Horikoshi proved that it was more than “plot armor”. Rather, it was a necessary step, aligning with My Hero Academia’s themes of unity, resilience, and sacrifice.
